I'm a lifeguard and am qualified to teach CPR.
2 breathes to 30 compressions.
If you're doing it right, you will break ribs.
If a bystander is not trained in CPR, he/she should provide compression only CPR for an adult who suddenly collapses.
All trained rescuers should, at a minimum, provide chest compressions for victims. But if you have 2 bystanders, you should be able to do both compressions and ventilations.
Studies have shown that CPR that combines chest compressions and ventilations is the most effective method for treating children and infants, because cardiac arrest in children and infants is typically secondary to conditions that compromise or prevent breathing (drowning/choking).

knew a woman who was first on the scene for a car accident involving teenagers, she ended up performing cpr. She was incredibly thankful that she had one of those mouth protection valve pieces.
I keep one in my car now

Since I turned 18 I've always kept current on Standard First Aid w/ CPR & AED. I believe it's one of those things I should know just in case. I also keep a hefty first aid kit in the car and at home.
I just renewed Red Cross via a company called AIP Safety. During the course, he mentioned that they will do free courses to anyone, but you will not receive the actual certificate at the end. So for those who just want to have it just in case and don't require it for work or need to prove you have it, this may be an avenue.
The free course may be the emergency first aid, instead of standard, but why not take it?

I've heard the part about breaking ribs (as Puxlut mentioned) meaning your doing it right...and the sternum too? Or did I get bad information? I think I was also told that probability suggests that you are most likely to perform CPR on a loved one/relative...for that reason alone, it would be a good idea to get CPR certified.

1½ - 2" in depth for compressions on an adult is typical, so definitely expect broken ribs and grinding bones (crepitus). Chances of actually reviving a patient from CPR alone are around 2% last I saw. But CPR is often mis-used in old TV shows. Defibrillators are typically mis-used in TV and such frequently, for dramatic effect.
I've never done it, but I know those who have. I was kind of bummed out that I wasn't able to try it on my practicum. Don't get me wrong; I was also glad I didn't have to do it too - I don't want to see people in that type of situation - but experience is a great learning tool for that field of work.

I've never had to use CPR, but have had to use First Aid skills multiple times.
In the 2 day St. Johns course you do everything, CPR, AED, Infant resuscitation etc. Highly recommended. If you can get your work to pay for it, these are great skills to have and can save someones life.

That is what I did. I needed it for my summer job. I got 100% on the exam. And I've forgotten most of it!

Check ABC's (Airway Breathing Circulation) if the situation permits; start CPR at 30:2 compressions to breaths at 100 compressions/minute (or to the beat of Stayin' Alive, oddly enough). It gets easy to remember after it's drilled into your head. You'd be surprised what you can recall under stress, too.

What are you supposed to do if CPR doesn't want you anymore? How do you make it come back?

Is there a new training? Or is CPR just going to get a reboot?
