No one else in the top 5 positions will be dumb enough to take Ritchie over any of the consensus top kids. Normally I wouldn't even have an issue with the Flames drafting for need (eg. size on wing) in a draft where the top group includes several players. The thing is, Ritchie isn't one of them. He is a tier below. I'm pretty sure (if it isn't just a smoke screen tactic) that we're the only one touting this kid as actually being in the mix. And tbh it's embarrassing as a fan.

You can only try to outsmart everyone when you have the track record to show that your scouting staff can spot NHL talent like others can't. Teams like Detroit have that. We do not. It would be incredibly stupid on our part, unless we trade down to 6 or lower. And I'd hate for us to help Vancouver's draft position, so even that sounds stupid.

The above link suggests Richie is right there with the top 5 goal scorers of the last 10 drafts. Of course, those top 5 went on to become stars in the NHL.

Huh? You really want to talk about a guy with 1.21 ppg in the same company as a guy who had 2.50?

Even the author of that piece says his closest comparable is Landeskog. The guy who gets Kane, Tavares, and Stamkos in his write-up is Reinhart.

I do like that Even Strength Primary points per game stat from that website, I think even strength points mean more to creating a strong team then having a bunch of PP point generators.

Lots of guys in the 0.5 to 0.55 range (or lower) for that stat didn't end up translating their offense very good to the NHL level.

Those forwards were all taken with top 10 picks and while it is too early to tell for a lot of them, you also have a pretty good group of players who haven't quite lived up to expectations offensively yet.

The guys who are 0.75 or above in their draft year have translated to elite/top line players with two exceptions.

Seguin
Strome
Gagner

The players in this draft that are 0.75 or above:

Very interesting the Fabbri is also the only player outside of P.Kane in that grouping to have elite markings in 4 or more offensive categories. Have to think he would be higher ranked if he was 6'0".

It's not a stretch at all to suggest Ritchie is a top 5 talent in this draft - I still think Calgary takes whoever is left of the big 4, with Ritchie as their #5.

I honestly think the Flames try hard to pick up another pick in the top 10 and target Ritchie. Personally think that they try really hard for that 5th overall pick if the Islanders really are shopping it.

If we could leave the draft with two of Draisaitl, Bennett, Reinhart, and Ritchie that would be amazing.

Obviously the Islanders want to do whatever they can to make sure next years pick isnt a lottery pick. Wonder if we can grease them with Hudler + 2nd + Wideman or something? would be nice to pick 4,5.

Ekblad, Draisaitl, and Ritchie are physically ready for the NHL. Reinhart and Dal Colle wasn't much smaller than Monahan at the draft. Bennett could surprise and bulk up a lot in the off-season. So it's not impossible, but I think only Ekblad is a heavy favourite to make the NHL. I see one of Reinhart and Draisaitl also making it.
