But Nashville won't.
Maybe Cammy @ 50% salary and both the St. Louis and Pittsburgh picks.

Poile I believe is about the only GM in the top five the Flames could make a deal with to move up. They have a decent prospect pool but I think adding the 27-30th pick would entice the preds to move down two spots.
FLA would probably want Johnny hockey and the 22nd pick (along with the 6th). Which is a Tad too high for my liking. Getting to the top three is going to cost more than the Flames should realistically be able to afford. And I know Jones is good but in my mind if they took MacKinnon frst over all we would have wasted assets to miss something the Flames needed more than anything else. Which is why they would be moving up in the first place.
I'd much rather see the Flames massage a deal with Ottawa to maybe move the 22nd up to 17th and get a decent prospect like Ceci in the same swing. Much more believable scenario would be 22nd pick and Cammy to Otttawa for 17th and Ceci, or something along those lines.
EDIT: I wanted Barkov more than anyone else in this draft but I am happily settling in on the Idea of Lindholm or Monahan. The assets the Flames will get by making three solid picks in the first round is a far better scenario going forward than loading up on one pick like MacKinnon. He's the super sexy idea of what the Flames need but I think strength in numbers is the right way to go.

Absolutely.
If the flames had a cupboard full of prospects, then trading quantity for quality would be a great move. But the Flames don't have assets to spare and are in need of both quality and quantity.

One thing people fail to see is this is a great year for the flames to get assets for almost nothing, having a huge amount of cap space and the willingness to spend it when teams need to shed could turn this team around in a hurry.
If there's a chance to get a MacKinnon without giving up your top 2-3 players you make that deal and build your team using what most don't have this year...cap space!

I think you need to look at the Bruins and build that way. Do they have any elite picks doing the heavy lifting? The have a bunch of quality players. They may not be the grade A types like Crosby/Malkin. They definitely would be considered second tier players below the Crosby/Malkin types.
The more I think about it the more I want to keep and pick three first rounders. I know it defies the odds for all three to be impact players but in a deep draft those odds improve.

Yep. 3 key players of theirs weren't even drafted in the first round too.
Patrice Bergeron - Picked in the 2nd round, 45th overall
David Krejci - Picked in the 2nd round, 63rd overall
Milan Lucic - Picked in the 2nd round, 50th overall

Damn. Flames made one 2nd round pick in the 7 drafts spanning 04-10.

And the one Sutter picked is a lemon, Feaster got two seconds back(one of them Sutter traded away) but they have promise anyway.
Love Darryl but man he loved to give away 2nds.

If Florida will take that package, I would do it. As soon as Colorado picks ideally. But if there is an expiration date, I make that deal.

I think they'd find it hard to turn down
#6 + #28 (if PIT doesn't come back) for #4
Getting a late first in a deep draft to trade down two spots is a deal they couldn't refuse IMO unless they see a steep dropoff after #4 or #5 which I doubt they see.
Now is that worth it to us? Depends how our list looks and how big the dropoffs are on our list.
If our list looks like this based on talent:
1. MacKinnon
2. Jones
3. Drouin
4. Barkov
5. Nichushkin
6. Lindholm
With a dropoff after #4 or #5 then maybe we would do it. Because I don't think the Flames are going to be ecstatic to have to take Nichushkin or pass on him strictly because of Russian worries. It might be easiest to trade up ahead of where you have him ranked and grab Barkov.
If they don't see much difference between Barkov and Lindholm/Monahan then trading up doesn't make sense.
But just as the NSH Assistant GM Paul Fenton has said Barkov is a perfect fit for them, he's a perfect fit for us too. Big #1 playmaking centre.

Makes zero sense for Nashville IMO. They can grab a franchise centre, potentially the best centre they've ever had and keep him for years. Or they can trade for an upcoming UFA in Cammalleri and the #28 pick? Don't see how that would remotely interest them. Barkov holds WAY, WAY more value to them than Cammalleri and a late 1st.

And like I said, is he significantly better than the rest of his draft class? Is he even better than Rask or Quick at all (picked 7 goalies after him)? Take him away from the Habs hype machine, and I doubt it.
Again, not saying that there are no good goalies in the first round....just saying that not even the pro scouts seem to get a good handle on drafting goalies, or know who the 'right" or "wrong" goalie is. It's just not worth wasting a 1st rounder.

I haven't seen any evidence to indicate the Flames prefer Monahan to Lindholm. Most scouting reports I've read have Lindholm as having a slightly higher upside. And with his high compete level and high hockey sense he sounds like a perfect Flames pick.
Wouldn't surprise me if we took either guy. They are both attractive but I have a slight preference for Lindholm.

I am a bit worried about picking Lindholm now. He is a streaky player and tends to prioritize passing over shooting ala Tangauy. I think this would drive people mad. He also doesn't have as good a shot as Tangs it is only average. Infact, he only had 3 even strength goals(yikes). His sh% was a bit high while his shot totals low which signals that what he did is probably unsustainable.
He didn't really catch fire till he was moved to wing and put on a line with Calle Jarnkrok so there is questions whether he can actually produce as a center, produce on his own and be more consistent(he went cold the last half of the season).
Monahan on the other hand was consistent all year had a more even split of ES goals and did it while having no one decent to play with on his team. His NHLE was 33 to Lindholms 40 but I feel like if he had a guy like Jarnkrok on his line + didn't have the added responsibilities of playing center his numbers would have been similar. Add in Monahans intangibles like size and leadership and I now beileve he is the guy.

I'm in the same boat with having only a slight preference for Lindholm for his higher upside.
I would be extremely pleased if we end up either Lindholm or Monahan. That's all I can say.

2nd round picks are thrown around like candy. There have been 76 second round picks moved in the last 5 drafts?

do we have a best case vs worst case for where the pittsburg 1st round pick can fall based on the 2 remaining series and the cup outcome?

And they have far more ammo than anything the Flames could even try to muster in order to move up.
Myers, Vanek, Gerbe, Ennis, Stafford, Miller... take your pick Colorado/Florida/Tampa.
