Here in California we are back to wearing masks indoors in many areas due to the delta variant. Case rates are through the roof. It's a combination of people not getting the jab and things def. opened up too quickly. We got about a month of "normal life" in before it started slipping back.

I'm a musician, and have a bunch of gigs lined up in Sept/Oct, mostly indoor venues.

All those venues are already requiring masks and proof of vax OR recent negative test, but it is almost certain that all or some of those shows will be cancelled the way that things are going.

Out in Louisiana, they've now cancelled Jazz Fest and many other events this fall due to so many unvaccinated folks overwhelming the hospital system there.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...ival-canceled/

To say I'm sick of unvaxxed folks whining about their "freedoms" and spouting pseudo-science would be a major understatement....I'd love it if you'd just shut up and do your part so we can move forward, please, or at least just watch the game from home and stay off your anti-vax soapboxes. You are doing major harm, and history will not be kind to your views.

It took two centuries for the vaccines to eradicate smallpox. And there were plenty of anti vaxxers along the way. Some thought the vaccine caused syphilis.

And while smallpox has now been eradicated, I believe it's inaccurate to say that "everyone" got the vaccine. It's unclear just how many received it but likely over 80%. Took a while to get there to say the least.

Covid is a very different disease.

Over 80% was probably sufficient for their purposes. It might even do the trick now. “Everyone” was an exaggeration but there was certainly a lot more buy in than now.

Asking questions doesn't make you an anti vaxer or conspiracy theorist, but seems to be treated as such.
Everything isn't black or white, lots of grey.
Asking questions is great as long as you ask the right people and are prepared to accept the answer. If I have a plumbing question, I ask a plumber. If I have a medical question, I ask a doctor.

I am actually getting a different vaccine tomorrow (Hep A & B), and I certainly didn't jump in without asking questions. I talked to my doctor, the pharmacist who will be giving it, and someone that I know had it. What I didn't do was go searching social media and internet forums for answers.

I sure will. Question is, will you do the same? Because the “gotcha” moment is happening right now with people like you. 99% of COVID hospitalizations are among the unvaccinated. Many antivaxxers pleading for the vaccine in their last moments. Gotcha I guess?

And let's not forget the government spin with numbers. Alberta likes to tout higher figures but in terms of total population we've hardly clawed over the half way amount at 57.3% total population.

We have a long way to go to get to 70, let alone 80!

I'm just not sure that's true. Smallpox was not eradicated overnight, vaccines had been developed for over two centuries and the disease was widely under control by the time the WHO began its eradication program in 1967. How long do you think it took to get to 80% in places like the US and canada. I believe it was decades if not more.

My wife is a registered nurse. The frustration she has been experiencing (and every other nurse) over the last week or so with covid hospitalizations has been incredible. They're getting more covid hospitalizations each day, all of those patients unvaccinated (at this point), and many of those covid patients are explaining the different covid hoax theories to the doctors & nurses that are providing them medical attention to treat their complications due to... covid.

I couldn't do that job. I'd absolutely lose my ####.

The Sharks are also requiring proof of vaccination or a rapid test within 72 hours of events:

re: Sharks

That's whole lot of tests for unvaccinated season ticket holders!!

But it is self attest so it's all rather meaningless.

You can test negative and then get it the next hour at the mall.

The Sharks got it half right.

Either proof of vaccinated or some document if you a medically unable to get it.

Also today, AEG Presents announced that they are going to require proof of vaccinations at all events and venues owned and operated by the company by October 1.

AEG Presents is the second-largest concert promoter in the US, behind LiveNation. It's also owned by AEG, which owns the Kings and operates the Staples Center and T-Mobile Arena, as well as the arenas in Pittsburgh, Glendale, and Newark. They also operate the Stockton Arena, where the Flames' AHL affiliate plays.

I'm not sure if this new policy will apply to the sports venues, or is only for concerts.

LiveNation will be leaving the decision for vaccine enforcement up to the individual performers on their concerts.

This should all be encouraging news especially for those that are requiring proof and not just asking the questions.

So if I do need to show proof what do I bring? That little piece of paper they gave me? Or can I access my medical records online somehow?

You can/should get the MyHealthRecords App.
It'll have all of that info, as well as a bunch of other stuff that could be useful for you.
Pretty easy to set up too.

I'm just jumping in on this discussion now and haven't read the whole thread and someone can correct me if I am wrong but vaccines are effective at preventing severe illness and death related to Covid but the vaccine does not provide any guarantee for not getting infected or not transmitting the virus. A negative test result should be just as good as proof of vaccination because a vaccinated person could be infected and spreading at the arena anyways.

Fans will be required to show proof of vaccination or negative test at NOLA Saints games. And wear a mask too.

But this is not the team, this is by authority of the mayor's office.
