I agree. I'm just saying it feels inauthentic.

HBO has not done a very good job in providing everyone who wants to watch it legally with the ways and means of doing so.

You can literally pirate the episode with 15 min of it being aired and watch it right away.

No, that would be insane. I'm going to wait another week until after the Deadwood movie airs. Then, I'll cancel it.

I think lots of stuff feels like that right now because of the obvious rush to end the show.

I think its clear that HBO has restricted the budget to make the show end and going forward I can't imagine that will bode will for other big name series as the writers won't want to be restricted.

Netflix & Amazon are both not afraid to spend money while HBO can't commit more to the only big thing they have going.

Why would anyone cancel it before May 31st? You paid for all of May! haha

Last note so I don't derail the thread...

Several years ago the CEO of Time Warner said that pirating was actually helping HBO get subscribers and that having the most pirated show was better than getting an Emmy.

If you live in Canada and aren't paying for Crave+ you are crazy. You get HBO and Showtime and a #### tonne of movies. It's way better than Netflix. It's like if someone went through netflix, took out 99% of their content (which is all ####) and then charged you for it.

HBO is also advancing the spin-offs much too slow. GoT will end and there will be nothing new for a few years which will result in a massive loss of subscribers.

And there is nothing else coming that is remotely close.

Amazon has the Middle Earth series coming, Netflix has tons of stuff coming, Disney has their stuff coming and HBO has nothing.
*ahem*

VEEP might be the best dark comedy in decades. Scathingly funny and torn from the headlines. It's really amazing stuff.

True Detective, while it can be hit or miss due to the nature of new stories and characters from season to season, is one of the great moody dramas since Breaking Bad left the air.

Barry has produced nothing but top notch work since it started last year. It wouldn't shock me to see it win multiple Emmys this year. It's an amazing show worthy of anyone's time.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver continues to be the most irreverent political comedy show with mostly very high quality in depth magazine pieces on important topics. Another show worthy of watching every week.

Big Little Lies will be airing a second season very soon, picking up on the popularity of the 1st season. I wasn't keen on watching that one, but I'm really glad I did. It was excellent.

I'm not the biggest fan of Westworld, but that's a show with a pretty strong following as well.

They've just started airing a new Chernobyl miniseries, and is already getting incredibly positive feedback after the first episode.

There's a new Deadwood reunion movie coming soon which should be great.

Bill Maher is still going strong after all this time. Still produces a great show with good discussion, debate, and information.

Then you have lighter fare like Ballers, Insecure, Silicon Valley (whenever that comes back) that all add other smaller reasons to watch HBO.

I'm just saying, if the only reason to watch HBO is GoT, then you're missing out on some of the best content on television.

^^^ Unfortunately:
  • Veep's series finale is this Sunday
  • GOT's series finale is the following Sunday
  • Barry's season finale is immediately after the GOT finale
  • The Deadwood movie is 2 hours on May 31, then it's done forever too
  • The premiere dates for the next seasons of Westworld and Silicon Valley are TBD
  • Who knows when or if there will be another season of True Detective
  • I liked the first season of Big Little Lies, but I didn't love it and wouldn't have been disappointed if they left it as a single season show

For me personally, unless something spectacular gets announced in the next couple of weeks for airing this summer, I'll probably cancel after watching the Deadwood movie and not renew until the Watchmen series starts, whenever that will be.

And then ran it through a compression filter and downscaled it to 720p and a 800kbps bitstream, merged the audio into 2 channels and cut the frequency range to 200hz-3,000hz.

I still pay for Crave (it's got Tales From The Tourbus!), but lets not pretend it's streaming quality even comes into the same parking lot as Netflix, let alone ballpark.

I think he was comparing it to Netflix in terms of content, and I agree. But they definitely need to invest in better infrastructure. It's 1080p on AppleTV and Xbox now but it's still 720p in a browser. That was unacceptable 5 years ago.

Totally fair, but I guess my objection was more about the idea there isn’t anything else on HBO worthy of watching.

I just had my monthly meeting with my boss and we spent half of it discussing GoT theories haha. We really both have no idea how it will end. Obviously Jon becoming King is the the obvious happy ending which should mean in GoT world there will be a big twist and he will be killed.

Also, we agreed that although the show is still the greatest thing on TV the writing has gone downhill in recent seasons. My biggest gripe with the other night is how easy it has all of sudden become to kill a dragon. I thought you needed magic or some kind of miracle shot. Even one of my most hated movies ever, the Hobbit 3, did the Dragon killing right although I guess it at least had source material. Just lazy writing to move the plot.

I think compared to something like GoT or the new Middle Earth show from Amazon there isn't much going on.

Well yeah. It’s somewhat rare for any network to have the most expensive show in the history of television, let alone two of them.

HBO has an amazing amount of content and I’ve always found its worth it. More value than I get out of any other channel.

I'm looking forward to Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO), Good Omens (Amazon), Watchmen (HBO), Chernobyl (HBO), The Outsider (HBO, Stephen King) and Lovecraft Country (HBO, Jordan Peele, JJ Abrams).

Of course the GoT spinoffs will have to be watched just to see if they can carry the torch.

Does Crave+ have full archives for all of HBO's content?

Yes. Rome, Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire etc. Plus almost all of their original movies, documentaries, a ton of stand up.

Not 100%, but there isn't much they don't have. What they don't have is mostly older shows that HBO aired but didn't own (like Dream On and Arliss).

Pretty much anything associated with HBO's "Golden Age" starting with Oz and Larry Sanders is on there.
