People lose their minds in this thread as though the seriousness of the charge is the end of the story. Some of these people are like the magistrates in the Salem witch trials. Check the poster's history, they are not an Oiler fan.
Although I must disagree with the premise. If everyone in the NHL was a free agent, you could draft anyone and sign them only to a 1-year deal, you'd pick McDavid if you had the first pick? I wouldn't.

I was walking the dogs with a random playlist…and on comes Final countdown! I immediately thought of this thread from a few pages ago. Hilarious!
I get told tales of bravado about the “upcoming” Draisatl signing and home town discounts.
If I’m Draisatl’s agent, I’m opening at max salary and max years. It doesn’t matter if he gets it in the end…although logically it should be close. Player would be leaving millions on the table otherwise.
McDavid’s agent (forever known as “the reluctant GM”) should be able to negotiate that.
If they keep pissy, I can see the tenderness being sent away for cap reasons.

Always stories coming out about the Oilers "awkward" business practices. Such a clown organization.
https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/edmont...ith-the-oilers
Things got awkward from there on out. Demers explains how the attitude towards them changed and how the night ended, "it went from them courting me...it went from talking to me and Luc [Lucic] to like we weren't even there in the house."
"Chiarelli drove us back to the hotel," Chiarelli drove them back to the hotel and then gave the equivalent of a shoulder shrug and a "sorry" and they were on their way.

Mario Lemieux: 2x Stanley Cups
Jaromir Jagr: 2x Stanley Cups
Sidney Crosby: 1x Stanley Cup
Connor McDavid: 0x Stanley Cups
Caveat: Richard and Howe won their cups in a 6-team league; Orr won his in a 12-team and 14-team league. The remaining players all won their championships during the current era of the 16-team playoff format.
Obviously hockey is a team sport and McDavid is just one player, but the very best of the best prior to him all found a way to push their teams over the top and win one or more titles in the same number of seasons. Probably McDavid's closest comparison is Ovechkin who put up phenomenal individual numbers but despite his natural talent could never take his team into the promised land until late in his career.
Will McDavid follow in Ovi's footsteps and eventually win a Cup, or will he be remembered as another all-time great who never won a title like Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Dan Marino, Barry Bonds, Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson, Karl Malone, and Marcel Dionne?

Crosby has 3 Stanley Cup wins.

Why is that story titled that way? Lucic didn't prevent the signing. The Oilers decided to just court Lucic and not Demers.
And who tries to negotiate with two players in one meeting anyway?

Yes but winning the 2nd and 3rd cups in his 11th and 12th seasons. The list was comparing the greats through 9 seasons; all mcdavid has to show for it is a heartbreaking 1 goal loss in game 7 finals, I mean he has a bigger heartbreaking loss in the finals than Crosby’s game 6 finals loss so there’s that lol.

The first line: Milan Lucic's arrival with the Edmonton Oilers was heralded across Alberta.
Terrible writing and worse geography. I only remember one part of Alberta “heralding” Lucic’s signing.

Apparently he ushered in some sort of winning attitude.

Don’t do it Hunter, both as a Flames alumni and the fact that the only reason they aren’t choosing the guy who is to be your senior advisor is because he’s still got too much PR heat on him.
The Oilers have nowhere to go but down from this year, and that’s even before you factor they were very fortunate to get out of round 2 as the Canucks imploded.
In a couple seasons or less, you’ll be blamed for them not winning the Cup (even though the seas won’t part like they did for the team in the playoffs this year) for Draisital leaving and McDavid possibly leaving, and you will be gone in less than 2 years with Bowman quickly taking over.

Revoke Hunter's Cup ring if he goes there.

Anxiously awaiting the first article from staples, Spector or Matty referring to 61 yo Mark Hunter as one of the brightest young minds in the game today
