Mario Lemieux: 2x Stanley Cups
Jaromir Jagr: 2x Stanley Cups
Sidney Crosby: 1x Stanley Cup
Connor McDavid: 0x Stanley Cups
Caveat: Richard and Howe won their cups in a 6-team league; Orr won his in a 12-team and 14-team league. The remaining players all won their championships during the current era of the 16-team playoff format.
Obviously hockey is a team sport and McDavid is just one player, but the very best of the best prior to him all found a way to push their teams over the top and win one or more titles in the same number of seasons. Probably McDavid's closest comparison is Ovechkin who put up phenomenal individual numbers but despite his natural talent could never take his team into the promised land until late in his career.
Will McDavid follow in Ovi's footsteps and eventually win a Cup, or will he be remembered as another all-time great who never won a title like Ty Cobb, Ted Williams, Dan Marino, Barry Bonds, Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson, Karl Malone, and Marcel Dionne?

Pretty sure Crosby has won 3 cups.

Watching the end of game 7 was brilliant
The last 16 seconds … Edmonton puts the puck in deep. Florida was eating the puck in the corner, and McDavid was waiting in front of the net, watching the battle from a distance, ready in case one of his teammates was able to dig out the puck so he could be the hero
Then the horn went and he looked sad

I’m not worried about the next few years. The Oilers has a really easy path to the final this year. I don’t expect that being repeatable

Daryl Katz, the Canadian billionaire and owner of the Edmonton Oilers, has been attempting to sell his luxurious mansion known as “The Manor” in Los Angeles. Despite its opulence and prime location, the property has remained unsold for 1.5 years. Originally listed at $160 million, the price has now been reduced to $137.5 million in hopes of attracting a buyer. “The Manor” is an architectural masterpiece, designed in a French chateau style and spanning approximately 56,500 square feet. Situated on a sprawling 4.6-acre lot in the prestigious Holmby Hills neighborhood, the estate merges classical elegance with modern amenities. Large windows and sliding glass doors illuminate the expansive living areas, offering stunning views of the meticulously manicured gardens. The property includes 14 bedrooms and 27 bathrooms, with the master suite featuring a spacious walk-in closet and a lavish bathroom equipped with a soaking tub.

No one who lives here builds a place like that in Edmonton.

I hate the Oilers as much as anyone, ever since I first watched Gretzky killing us. But even I can at last admit that McHobo is pretty pretty good - maybe even out of the ng territory. This season he turned Hyman to gold the same way Gretzky used to do to whatever plug he had on his line. I've always thought he'd be done the minute he lost a step, he really was a remarkable offensive player this year.
I have no problem calling him the best player in the game today, although I really hope he never wins a cup in Edmonton because as I said I really dislike Edmonton (like a lot a lot). It pains me to admit, even though he is Mr No Personality, but he ain't all that bad. I still have Lemieux as my #1, and then Gretzky, Howe and Orr, but McLotteryball is slowly and begrudingly entering the conversation. But he does suck at defence.

You should start an Edmonton is Pretty Pretty Good thread somewhere else. I'm sure it will be active.

Dude can single handedly win a game himself, but not when he chooses to or else he'd have his cup right now.
He's fast with hands, top top, but that is it.
To me the equivalent is Ovechkin, and even he has a cup. Unless he wins consecutive cups for 4 years, and even then, I still put Crosby a mile ahead of him.
And if winning when it counts is an important factor (to me it is)I'd take a Lidström or Pronger or Roy/Brodeur 10 times out of 10 over him.
Points in games that don't matter.
Personal awards that don't matter.
Banners in a rink that doesn't matter.

You'd be surprised. I'm old enough to have been around when the Flames first moved here and am a born and raised Calgarian. Hating Edmonton is in my blood. Add in some step-family from Edmonton who always gloated in the 80's and my hate was hardened in a fire of seething rage watching the 80's Oilers and Eskimos win everything all the time.
Although I have no problem sharing that title, maybe we can have our little bonfire of Edmonton paraphanelia and together revel in the destruction of anything Edmonton.

It's amazing how many posters will say ‘I hate the Oilers as much as anyone,’ when they are really just trying to cover their ‘but’.

Nope, I literally do. I even indoctrinated my kids into knowing e=ng. When they were little and we were out with my son, whenever he saw people in Oilers jerseys he would ask out loud "Dad, what's wrong with them, don't they know the Oilers suck?" My wife was always horrified, but I was proud.
I hate them so much, I actively pass it on to the next generation. So when I say "I hate them as much as anyone else" I'm just being generous to everyone else. I honestly despise them.
