Yup, was never a good thought to bring him here. I would be surprised if we hear from him ever again in the NHL. Will be interesting to see if he can make a come back or if he retires.
If he retires now, how much of that contract does he get?

Just because no one wants him for free, doesn't mean nothing will get done. If Kings throw in a really good incentive, or take back some bad contracts themselves, you could see a deal get done.

If he is willing to give more than definitely a deal happens. All him clearing proves is he will have to ante up if he wants that contract off the books. The 925k cap room LA got won't help that much and they will be in the same boat next year. I think Lombardi caves.

Lombardi doesn't even have to hang up because he doesn't even pick up the phone. Sorry, but that's a brutal proposal.

I think I would do that in a heart beat, but no way the Kings do this.

That's different. If the Kings paid a solid asset or two, I'd understand if a team acquired him. I mean the fans who thought he actually had some trade value and suggested trading Stajan/whatever for him.

At this point, it might not even be a GM decision, but it might be an ownership decision to get him off the books even if it costs them in other ways. It will be interesting to see what happens.

They are 10 pts up from picking 5th overall.
They have lost Pearson for the rest of the year. Tofolli has Mono and is expected to be out another couple weeks.
Missing Voynov has Doughty averaging 29:23/game rather than 24-26 that he was used to. He is only a +1.
The long term plan is to dump Richards for cap relief. The short term plan is that this just does not seem to be their year. They might be looking at what they can get for upcoming UFA's Regehr and Stoll.
|
Shrug. We could have an argument about where LA is going to finish, but bottom line that pick is not all that enticing to me. The prospects in that range aren't slam dunks. I think we're better off not having Richards on the cap to play his way to Stockton or wherever the hell our next AHL team is.

No surprise.
I read somewhere that the Kings have already re-assigned his dressing room stall, I take it that they don't expect him back.

Whatever happens, LA is not giving up a D, in fact it would probably be D going the other way. Whichever team trades for Richards should expect to send a serviceable 5-6 guy, along with a forward cap dump and see Richards and a 1st as compensation. Teams were asking for Toffoli, but I think that something slightly less will be the actual cost.

Is Toffoli worth that buyout cap hit? He seems like a pretty solid player.

Mike Richards - "So here I am in the AHL on a guaranteed contract paying me more then 7 million bucks a year, I get a raise because I don't pay escrow, and my deal lasts to 2020. On top of that I've won multiple Stanley Cups and other accolades right?"
Some LA executive - "That's about the extent of it"
Mike Richards - "Great thought I'd ask, now pass me that Keg of beer a straw and order me 50 cheeseburgers"

There's no way the Kings give up Toffoli. Their top wingers are starting to get up there in age and will soon be on the decline, namely Gaborik, Carter and Williams. They'll need a young skilled winger to replace them in 2-3 years.

no kidding, it happens all the time...guy clears waivers and then is traded soon after. Roy, Bork, ect. there are a million examples. Honestly how many teams could add that contract without salary going the other way or being retained.
Richards will be playing in the NHL soon trust me

Just don't tell him he goes from private jet to sleeper bus, full buffet meals to catered deli sandwiches, and his own 4/5-star hotel room to sharing a 3-star room with two other teammates.
Richards is also known as a serial free equipment abuser, so his new pair of gloves every week and new skates every month will probably get cut back hahaha.

why would we want to help the Kings? We don't want them to make the playoffs. This helps them more than us IMO. I would guess the plus wouldn't be a current roster player that helps us this year.
I know we are rebuilding, but our season isn't over yet. I'd rather they suffer with this Richards thing for a couple seasons and nobody bails them out.
