Contract is too long - if no one will bite now, he would need to really increase value to be able to be moved when the youngsters need new deals. Pass

I am thinking if Edmonton does not pick him up, he will clear waivers.

I bet they wished they had Simmonds and Schenn instead.

The Flames can't take this kind of contract if they want to compete in a few years.

We already have Backlund and Monahan, who are much better than Richards right now. What happens when Bennett makes the jump? We have a ridiculously expensive 4th line centre? On a massive contract?

Think ahead and don't be dumb.

Two cups say no. As bad as he has looked this past year, he played a huge role in their first one, no?

The Oilers HAVE to take him.

They have cap space galore, and do not have to give up anyone, nor do they have to force anyone to go there.

As someone who's always been a huge Mike Richards fan ... no thanks. The contract is just too long.

Edmonton might, which would make me throw up.

From what I've gathered, #LAKings were working on multiple deals to trade Richards over the weekend. Final one fell through late last night.

1. Centers are hard to come by.
2. We have lots of cap space.
3. He could be a good mentor to the kids.
4. He has two cups.

I would take him in a heart beat.

Richards might do well to contribute to that goal long term if he remains a 25 point player making big money for the next 5 years.

If Edmonton doesn't take him that would be ridiculous.

Have to think Winnipeg would take a look as well. Could use more center depth for the playoffs and he would be huge in going against the other big centers in their division.

This is exactly what I'm talking about.

We have cap space now.

What happens when Monahan wants $6M+ in a few years? Gaudreau? Giordano will want $8M+.

When it comes time to compete, Richards and his massive contract will make it harder to sign the pieces that actually matter to this rebuild.

Don't be fooled and think in the moment. Think long-term. We don't need a $6M mentor when we have enough vets on the team already.
