Since Siri requires Apple's server to actually do the work, I'm skeptical that the jailbreak community can get it fully functional.

Who knows. They were able to make it possible to downgrade iOS versions through SHSH blobs and what not. Some crazy devs out there!

Yeah there are really crazy hackers out there but all of the jailbreaking were done on the client side. That is, the jailbreak was done on the iPhone itself. But processing of Siri commands are done on Apple's server so I'm not sure how they're planning to hack that.
I strongly doubt that the Apple engineers would allow any devices to authenticate with their Siri server. I'm not sure how they implemented Siri but they could've done something similar to BlackBerry PIN where the PIN is hardware dependent and that PIN would be used to verify that the device is a 4S.
Considering that Siri was a major selling point of the device, I doubt that Apple would let it be possible to connect to the server with a jailbroken device.
Anyway, where can I follow the progress of this project?

Who knows if we'll ever see this work. It'll be interesting to follow though!
As more devs get 4S's, it might speed up the process.

If people in Canada are planning on buying the iphone 4s for Siri, Dont.
It sucks balls and can't do anything really other than tell you the damn weather and some other useless information. Still a great phone, but Canada got shafted.

None of the local features work in Canada, like finding restaurants, directions etc.

Notifications for echofon seem to have stopped with ios5, is there any reason this may have happened?

I guess my wife walked into Marlborough this morning when the mall opened and was first in line at Fido and got a white 4S. Lol.

I watched the news last night and they made it seem like you had to wait in line all night to get your hands on this phone. They were showing people camping outside stores and saying people slept outside to get one.
I walked into the store at 1 p.m yesterday and didn't have to wait in any line. The only thing that took long was the activation because the computers were so slow.

Silentsim already elaborated, but it's pretty useless IMO. Almost anything you ask it, it just takes you to google. I rather just open google and search myself, but maybe that's just me.
I did call siri a dirty bitch and she replied "I don't even exist, how could you hate me"
I got a good chuckle out of that.

Siri hasn't even been fully released yet. It's still in beta. It will include international lookups when it moves to release state in 6 months or so.

I couldn't disagree more. Ya it sucks not having one feature, but it does many things. After half a day with it I already wouldn't want to not have it. Extremely useful things I've done so far:
- "Find my wife" (pulls in info from the Find My Friends app and pins their location on a map)
- "What am I doing tomorrow/on the weekend/next week?" (brings up you calendar events for the time frame mentioned)
- "Will it snow/rain/be sunny tomorrow?" (very fast weather access)
- "Remind me to leave the stroller when I leave this location" (I'm always forgetting to leave my mom the stroller when she baby-sits, and this triggers a reminder when I get about 0.5 km away)
- "remind me I need gas at 9 am tomorrow" (going to the airport, can't be forgetting that)
- "book lunch with dad next wednesday at 2"
- *email comes in while driving* "read latest email message".
The fact you can talk naturally is fantastic for me. Even when my wife was playing with it and she asked to bring up a map and siri replied "Sorry, I can't do that in canada yet" my wife snapped back "so what can you do?" and it gave her a list of capable functions. She was kind of impressed.
Yes it will be awesome when map services get here, but until then Siri is still incredible imo.

I thought the iOS 5 update had Siri, just two days ago I was told that Siri is only with the iPhone 4S. NOOOO!!!!
Oh well, the new messenger with iOS 5 with other iPhones is sweet. "Delivered" "Read".

If I had a 4s I'd boss Siri around like it's the 50's, just to see what the response would be. I'm curious if it'd tell me to eff off like my wife does.

After playing around with my phone a little bit I retract my statement about this siri thing being useless. This post was made by me talking into the phone so I guess it's not so useless after all.
