I don't see any options on NHL.com.

I see a couple of you have offered to help me out and I appreciate the offers but really, it's not necessary to go through all that work. Part of the reason I was using NHL.com was because they offer the hat in an XL size and those are almost impossible to find to begin with. You can't even find Flames hats in that size at Fanattic!

I'm sorry, just have to mention.

Another no show for UPS today. That is the 5th scheduled delivery that they just blew off. It's like they're holding onto my item and do not want to give it to me.

Goddamn I hate that company.

Guys, I found the hat I was looking for on ebay. But in the process of paying for it, I noticed something. Paying for it through paypal today and their exchange rate isn't correct.

PayPal's Exchange Rate as of Nov. 4, 2007:
1 Canadian Dollar = 1.04225 U.S. Dollars

On the Yahoo! Canada Finance page it says the current exchange rate is:
1 Canadian Dollar = 1.0702 U.S. Dollars

Is paypal running some kind of scam on us, too?

Looking at my bank's rate, it is 1.0462

I'm sure if you were looking to buy 10 or 20 million dollars, you could buy at the Yahoo rate. However for those of us without that kind of cash, 2-3% is the normal fee for currency exchanging.

But even if you had $10M to exchange, you would still need to get it into a US bank account somehow, then transfer the funds into Paypal, then make your payment. Or you can just go ahead and pay the 90˘ fee that Paypal charges.

How do you think PayPal makes money?

Should be through advertising, not ripping off the customer.

If that's as simple as it is, give us the proper exchange rate and then charge a fee. Don't be so slimy about it.

OK, I have a couple of problems with these statements Eddie.

- Advertising? No way in heck do I want some 3rd party being involved in my Paypal transaction. And once you put ads on the site, the ad provider is capable of sharing some of your information. That's why there isn't ads to begin with.

- Ripping us off? Once again, they are charging a similar rate as the banks are. Yes, slightly higher than the banks, but not by much. They are a customer service industry, and they charge a small fee for each transaction. And exchanging currency is an additional transaction than a regular US$ to US$ transfer. By allowing me to use them instead of using a bank, it costs me less than 0.5% over what the bank charges me. Another option is to get yourself a US$ bank account and use that.

- Slimy? The fees aren't hidden.

Bottom line is doing stuff costs money. Does Paypal make money as a business? Of couse, they make lots. But they make lots by being there to offer a service.

Think of how this thread started. You were mad about being "ripped off" by a legitimate company for shipping charges; ie one you could have handed over your Visa number to without flinching. Now you found some guy selling the item you want.... would you give this guy your Visa number? No, so Paypal steps in and not only lets you pay with Visa or you chequing account, and they turn around and pay the guy. Plus if you have set up Paypal correctly they also guarantee you won't get ripped off. That's a service, and that cost money to happen.
