If that's as simple as it is, give us the proper exchange rate and then charge a fee. Don't be so slimy about it.

OK, I have a couple of problems with these statements Eddie.
- Advertising? No way in heck do I want some 3rd party being involved in my Paypal transaction. And once you put ads on the site, the ad provider is capable of sharing some of your information. That's why there isn't ads to begin with.
- Ripping us off? Once again, they are charging a similar rate as the banks are. Yes, slightly higher than the banks, but not by much. They are a customer service industry, and they charge a small fee for each transaction. And exchanging currency is an additional transaction than a regular US$ to US$ transfer. By allowing me to use them instead of using a bank, it costs me less than 0.5% over what the bank charges me. Another option is to get yourself a US$ bank account and use that.
- Slimy? The fees aren't hidden.
Bottom line is doing stuff costs money. Does Paypal make money as a business? Of couse, they make lots. But they make lots by being there to offer a service.
Think of how this thread started. You were mad about being "ripped off" by a legitimate company for shipping charges; ie one you could have handed over your Visa number to without flinching. Now you found some guy selling the item you want.... would you give this guy your Visa number? No, so Paypal steps in and not only lets you pay with Visa or you chequing account, and they turn around and pay the guy. Plus if you have set up Paypal correctly they also guarantee you won't get ripped off. That's a service, and that cost money to happen.
