Best of luck, Shawnski.

And to anyone who really likes this, I would love to have you come work with us for the day tomorrow. You think it's fun to see it? Come play in it, it's awesome.

I am pained to hear that, FireFly. My sincerest and most heartfelt condolences to you and your family for your loss.

Just talked to my other sister, and news is not any better about my Dad. But nothing conclusive at this point.

For those that have not read these threads, I have two on my adventures with my Dad this summer.

The first is our fishing trip into Northern BC.

And the second is an incredible story about Dad's perseverence at the BC Senior Games this summer.

I am going to miss him... I just hope that missing doesn't start right away.

Thanks everyone.

Ha! Dunlop Wintersport DSST directionals baby! I just love how my car handles on these snowy roads. Too bad there's usually cars in front of me. ;-)

Shawnski & Firefly,

Our thoughts are with both of you....

I wouldn't mind if the weather was like this all winter if it meant we could have a decent summer in this freakin province.

I don't know if you live in the same city as your father or not, but if you do. GO SEE HIM AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!!! I lost my mom less then 5 months ago and although I spent 16 hour days with her for the last 7 weeks of her life, IT WAS STILL NOT ENOUGH. I regret not spending even more time with her. I miss her more everyday. I thought time would heal, but it in fact gets worse. Anyway, if you don't live in the same city as him try to visit him as much as possible. My employer was kind enough to give me 9 weeks off (unpaid, but totally worth it).

Also, out of curiousity, how old are you and how old is your dad? I am 26 and can't fathom living the rest of my life without my mom.

Anyway, back on topic. I am not a winter kind of guy, but I can live with this if it comes in spurts only.

My appologies if this thread has brought either of FireFly or Shawnski down in any way... Didn't expect that.

That really sucks to hear, Shawnski and FireFly. All the best to you.

I like snow and I like chinooks, but I have a real tough time dealing with short days (thank god its been getting longer, and I can actually see the sun when I get out of school now). I would probably have a real rough time when I grow up living in Canada, just because I need more sunlight. Summers are great, when the sun sets at 9 or 10, but at 2 or 3 is kind of rough.

Highway 2 at Ponoka, right now: Yeah, gotta love this weather.

(yes, there is a road there somewhere)

Driving from Innisfail to Calgary sucked. Hopefully the roads are better when I make the reverse trip tomorrow.

Still loving this weather. We need it in this region. It hasn't really been ball bustingly cold either. If you can't stand -15 weather you're not Canadian.

I hate this winter weather. Anyone been in an awful blue funk since the sky clouded over a week ago? Jeez I just can't shake it. And I bought new sneakers which I can't wear with all the snow and salt. I know... minor difficulties.

Sorry to hear about the troubles of Shawnski and FireFly. My best wishes to both of you. I recently lost my grandfather and grandmother in a single summer, it's pretty rough. I know you know to spend as much time with your dad as possible Shawnski, so please do so.

Thanks for all of your support gang.

An update on Dad for you. He is still in the hospital, but feeling a bit better. He will be taken by ambulance from Castlegar to Kelowna for some radiation treatments this week, which should help with the pain, and I am hoping that will allow him to ease up on the morphine, which in turn should allow him to regain some appetite (he lost 25 pounds in a couple weeks prior to getting hospitalized...)

At this point, he is getting palliative treatment, although not being designated as a palliative care patient. The odds, however, are not looking good for him to last past Easter.

He has asked that my sister in Van and myself do not travel down at this time, but we both are going to go over the next week, and will rotate visits (plus I have another sister living there now.)

Rough time, but all in all, I am very happy that he has lasted this long with the cancers that have infected him for the last 15+ years, and we have had some remarkable times together over that time.

And someone asked how old I am... I just turned 40. Been through the loss of one parent five years ago... not looking forward to that again...

Thanks again all.

Shawn

Thank you Oilers_fan, but I am not courageous. In our family, I will leave that to my niece and nephew, both of whom were just old enough to understand the passing of my Mother, and now must go through that again with their Grandfather. And for my niece, her other Grandfather just had a stroke and is also hospitalized.

For those two, I feel the most. My sisters and I are prepared for the events to come, those two are not.

Again, thank you...

best wishes to both of ya

as far as the weather, i live across the street from a senior's centre, so anytime there are flurries, even ones that melt, they are out there for an HOUR "blowing" the snow away, even at 3 am. It's so damn loud. Keeps me awake all the time.
