Yzerman led the Wings to their first cup in 42 years and helped turn them into the closest thing to a dynasty we've seen in the last 2 decades. Being more well known or not to today's fans, he deserves to be there

Picking someone like Hawerchuk for the current Jets franchise makes as little sense as picking someone like Frank Nighbor or Hod Stuart for the current Ottawa Senators franchise.
Given the modern Jets have done absolutely nothing in three years, the sad truth becomes that a guy who never even played there becomes the most notable name in that franchise's history.

Strange that Jean Beliveau and Guy Lafleur didn't even warrant an "Also in the running..." mention for Montreal. Arguably they both had better career stats than the Rocket.
Richard: 0.99 PPG, 1 Hart Trophy, 8 Stanley Cups
Beliveau: 1.08 PPG, 2 Hart Trophies, 1 Art Ross Trophy, 1 Conn Smythe Trophy, 10 Stanley Cups
Lafleur: 1.20 PPG, 2 Hart Trophies, 3 Art Ross Trophies, 1 Conn Smythe Trophy, 5 Stanley Cups

I think it could also have been Nick Lidstrom. Pretty hard to argue with Steve Yzerman though.

Richard was a cultural icon though, and a major reason why the Montreal Canadiens are still in Montreal. That was a franchise that nearly moved to Cleveland in the 1930s, and barely drew what the Coyotes do now early in the 40s.

Not when you consider the question asked:
We asked you to name your favorite player from your favorite team -- of all time. And here is what you said ...

Am I alone in thinking that lanny should have had some consideration? not that he would win but that his name should have been atleast thrown out there a la Hawerchuck and Gordie?

Sorry Cheese, but the 1972-1995 Winnipeg Jets and the 2011-present Winnipeg Jets are not the same teams.

Well if you consider " all time" teams then they most certainly are. They were both called the Winnipeg Jets.
If we were looking for an all time best Atlanta player I would consider both the Atlanta Flames and the Thrashers. The fact that there was some carry over from the Atlanta to Calgary Flames means squat when you talk about this.

when they say all time though they are clearly referring to the franchise not the city though. so no it does not count. The original jets would go with the Coyotes, Atlanta Flames with Calgary, Quebec with colorado, Minnesota North stars with Dallas not the wild. Whether or not that city that the team moved from now has a different franchise is completely irrelevant

So Tom Lysiak is an all time Calgary Flame and Pat Quinn is one of our all time best dmen??
Yes it does count.

It's called the Franchise Player Debate. They talked about the best players in the 30 franchises multiple times in the video. I understand there's some discrepancies when talking about teams like the Jets or Senators or cities like Calgary and Minnesota normally, there's simply no room to argue about what this debate was. All-time just means the best player of all-time in the franchise, i.e. not just active players.

Clearly we have been counting them in other discussions. As well, as Oling points out The Article states its a FRANCHISE player not for just that iteration. When a franchise moves, with the exception of the Cleveland Browns and their move to Baltimore, the franchise records and honours move with them. So Bobby Hull's #9 could still be used by the current iteration of the Jets, but not by Arizona.
