I’m usually upbeat with RFAs this time of year…watching, waiting with interest but after the Gaudreau fiasco it kinda flipped a switch. This protracted negotiating, posturing, game playing between certain players and management is getting to be a real turn off. To the point where I’ve pretty much lost interest in the Flames right now. Anyone else feeling this way?

Kind of? At the same time though I am just ready to turn a new leaf, with Lindholm leading the forward group. I would like Tkachuk and Monahan to move on to different teams, then allow us to use that cap to grab some players on short term deals. Maybe we won’t have a first line anymore. Rather, we roll out 4 very, very competitive lines. Not the best strategy but there’s not much else we can do at this point.

It started with the reffing in the Oilers series but 100% yes. I barely care anymore.

The Flames forcing this to arbitration means Tkachuk will not be holding out at the start of the season. He will have a contract in place and have to play.

Regardless of the contract he will get paid.

Trading him right now is best for the Flames and Tkachuk. Unless Tkachuk wants a long term contract with the Flames. Never the less it sets a deadline for the contract to be done.

We wont need to guess what his intentions are. The contract will be done long before training camp.

I dont blame Treliving for taking this road. Should of been tougher on Gaudreau.

You just cant let star players walk for nothing.

It actually does. Companies keep their execs through troubled times when it’s not on them all the time.

Especially if the board/owners are telling you 'you can't trade the guy who's name is on the back of every 2nd jersey we sell'.

Has Francis said he has an indication from the team or Tkachuk that he wants out, or is he just being his pessimistic self.

Dean Molberg is pretty close to the organization and he said that it's likely he gets traded on Twitter and that there's a 0% chance he signs long term

But so far there hasn't been a big insider who's confirmed that he wants out

If Tkachuk won’t sign here. Then send Brad Treliving out the f@&$:& door. Because that is unacceptable to lose him as well.

Unsure how this sets up angles in the negotiations other than they knew an offer sheet was coming.

Plus this also guarantees they pay him 9m minimum, do we know if it's only for 1 year or 2? How does club Arbitration work?
If they knew an offer sheet was coming, they should have let Tkachuk sign it.

I don’t think it was the offer sheet, I think it was the QO they wanted to push so a trading team can extend him. All signs point to that.

Also it stops teams from being able to negotiate with him, so a Tkachuk can’t tell them he has no interest in signing long term and scaring potential trade suitors off.

Yeah, it’s totally Brad’s fault Calgary isn’t part of the United States.

Didn't know that BT had the option to force players to sign long-term.
