Isn't Harper offering 18 Month mat leave for your entire family along with all of the legal marijuana you can smoke in that time?

It is selfish. It's rooted in the will to survive. Some people's will to survive is still rooted in money, because it's what we need to buy the things we need to survive. But I (and I think many in our age range) actually see the potential for life to end (or at least become terrifyingly difficult) if significant changes aren't made in the way we all live. Unfortunately, policy changes in Canada are not enough to complete global change that we need, but I do think that's where that impulse comes from. 50 year olds care about their next 20 years, which is "I need enough money to retire in relative comfort". We care about our next 70, which is "Holy f***, depleting resources with money grubbers blocking actual change. Holy s*** you mean we can use these renewable things and have tech available now but we just don't?" "Holy christ, it may sound crazy but I legitimately think humanity could take a serious hit in my lifetime without doing something about this stuff."
|
Well that, and I think we're going to have dramatically rethink our global economy within the next century. Neoliberalism simply isn't sustainable over the longterm, especially with the innovations in technology, automation, and possibly AI that we're going to see in our lifetimes.

I must admit I am a little confused. Your point is that all liberals point to skewed stats to sway a discussion?
I think a little credit (and faith in people you disagree with) is due. That poll, as small as it is, is the best I could find to represent the CP community. I agreed, the poll is not scientific, but I thought that was very obvious, and so I didn't need to distinctly state that in my response.
Do you have better data to support the claim that the majority of people on CP are not voting liberals (which was the actual point of yours I was questioning)?

There are a few very vocal members of this forum that have a focused and partisan agenda, which is fine. They are entitled to their opinion and I respect that.
Continually linking articles that clearly come with a heavy attached bias as an "AHA! I told you so!" has become extremely tiring.
By no means do these vocal few represent the views of the entire forum, and this has been echoed by other posters as well. That was my point.
My contribution of a link to a partisan article, just so that I don't feel left out:

Even if he wanted to, do we really think there are enough Red Tories left in the party for him to win? I think Jason Kenney is much more emblematic of the current Conservative Party.

Ya, don't you know Canadians only primarily invest in Real Estate! If you are renting and saving for your future in a TFSA, liquidate everything immediately and buy real estate! There's no risk there, all Canadians are doing it therefore it's the best option.

The Conservatives said that the TPP language would certainly be released before the election. Now it looks like it will not come out until after, as the 12 countries are haggling over what was agreed to.

Harper will be a tough act to follow for any of the Reformers. He may not be likeable but he doesn't come across as a total DB like many of his colleagues - Kenney, Poilivere, etc.

The Liberals are pretty much guaranteed to win this now. I can't stand Trudeau, but at least it's not the NDP winning. For the average Canadian it will be hard to notice a difference between the Conservatives and the Liberals.

The biggest difference will be an uptick in the volume and frequency of a keen whining noise heard every time you visit Facebook, much like after the provincial election.
I'm also looking forward to more dogwhistle racism from old co-workers and distant relatives.

Part of why I eliminated myself from Facebook over a month ago was for that very reason.
