If the Flames can sign Huberdeau then I think it's a must that they trade a dman and unfortunately a prospect for a top 6 r/w. I would not trade any of Coranato, pelletier or wolf.

He scored 28 with Suzuki as his center in 20-21. It'd be a waste to have paid a first for this guy only to throw him on the 3rd line where he clearly didn't click or find success with the players he did

If Monahan's surgery is successful, it might be like adding a top 6 forward

He did just fine scoring 28 with Caufield and Suzuki. And those two guys are probably faster.... I mean tkachuk is just as slow and he also did already. Toffoli's always been a guy who gets into the right position to score, he's never been a fast guy in his career. He's had a full off season to train the way Sutter wants.

[QUOTE=Sofa GM;8383341]That is atrocious
It may be high and I'd be thrilled to see him sign 8 x 4M a year or 4 x 5M type thing however I just can't see any such deal happening. It's certainly not "atrocious"!
He already did what his bridge was given to him to prove.
Why should he sign another bridge deal? Why wouldn't you want to sign him for 6-8 years? That'll cost extra in todays NHL cap world.
I think Winters his agent will want at least 6 x6 and maybe more to stay "long term".
Also eye tests suggest he will be a solid 25-35 goals a year guy, could improve with actual PP time. and his motor and drive are renowned around the league.

Good point. Maybe Toffoli would gell with those two. Still think they need another proven scorer.

Hip surgery is nasty.
More likely it takes a while to regain his form, meaning he plays a 3rd line or 4th line role.
Similar as last season before he was hurt

I honestly don't love being pessimistic, but I think Monahan's days as a meaningful player are over.
He's had so many issues with his wrists, hips, etc. -- he basically had to completely re-learn his skating stride after his first hip surgery, and now again.
The guys' game depended on his ability to move quickly, get to the right spots, and be strong on the puck. He can effectively do none of those things now.
I don't think a Monahan resurgence is in the cards -- not this year, and honestly not at all. He will never be the player he was. Not for lack of heart or trying, but he's both aging up and trying to recover from pretty major injuries.

Did you get a chance to listen to Winter's interview on the fan?
He said that Mangiapane was interested in a "longer term" deal. Eric said long term and Winter than corrected him for 'longer term".
After listening to the interview I feel as if the Flames might sign him to a 3-4 year deal.
A 3-4 year deal probably also allow Mangiapane to get another big deal after this one. Winter also said Mangiapane feels like he can pot 40-45 goals if given more opportunity.
Was very interesting to say the least.

I doubt they move Mercer.
He’s their #1 “prospect”
You could maybe get Holtz.

Monahan’s value to us may be in ltir space. Pull a Toronto/TB and ltir/Robidas island him to give us the cap space to make some adds without having to incentivize a team to take him in a deal. Maybe he can get healthy in time for a playoff push? Who knows.

I think this is far more likely than any chance of him coming back and making a difference.
I've seen people in threads here musing about how he could potentially return to the 2C role and I just don't see it. For like two whole seasons, the guy had to get injections into his wrists every game just to play.

The only issue with the LTIR is that the player will want to get back on the ice to earn another contract at some point. So unless you can swap another body for when that happens you hit that bind again.
Really have not heard much about Monahan's recovery but they shut him down earlier last year and he will have had more time to rehab than the previous year. So unless he has had a setback, doesn't seem like he would be on LTIR for too long.
Would be different had he played thru this and had the surgery after the playoffs where he likely would have been really damaged.
My suspicion is that he'll play at the start of the season, and who knows what you get out of him.

Agree with what you're saying in terms of it maybe being worse, but at this point don't you know what you have with the guy?
The storyline has been "I've had time to rehab and address my health issues and I'm coming back in a much better place!" before, and... performance didn't really go with it.
I'm not sure there's much mystery left.

Still have no idea why they waited until the following week of the trade deadline to put him on ltir when we could have used the space at the deadline.
No way they didnt know it was gonna go that way before the trade deadline.

I like the idea of adding Evan Rodrigues, I think he could slot nicely.
