For all the griping we do as long-suffering Flames fans, there’s no funner team to be a fan of when it comes to rivals. We can always count on the circus up the road for a half-dozen great days like this a year.

A 3rd going to Chicago was already enough, now they get a condition 2nd/3rd?? Lol, well done Hawks. Not that it’ll become a 2nd, but still.

So there is a chance the pick upgrades (not bloody likely) and the oilers took back a garbage contract. This keeps getting better.

Hey Oilers, your GM just basically admitted that they aren't going to win 3 rounds in the 2022 playoffs.

This will work out about as well as when Holland brought on Modano and Alfredsson when he was the Wings GM

Keith has more experience now than he did last week. He'll have even more experience come next week.
The price was only going to go up!

At first I thought the reporting of the terms of this trade was some kind of practical joke.
And upon digging deeper, I found out it was in fact a practical joke .... a joke on every inhabitant of Edmonton.
Among defencemen with at least 500 minutes at 5-on-5 last season, Keith was on the ice for the highest rate of expected goals against and shots on goal against and second-highest rate of shot attempts against. He was literally the worst defenceman in the NHL. Better still, the Oilers somehow failed to negotiate any salary retention by the Blackhawks, so Edmonton is on the hook for Keith's $5.5+ million cap hit for two more fricken years. And even zanier, the Oilers need to waste a protection slot on Keith in the upcoming expansion draft. Just a fabulously moronic and laughably boneheaded trade on all possible levels. Is Chiarelli still working there???

Keith is not the worse dman in the league. Chicago as a team was terrible in shot prevention and high scoring chances. Keith played against the other teams best players.
Now, I'm not suggesting he is a star, but with lesser ice time and playing againsts some weaker forwards, he can be a useful dman.
Which doesn't mean that the Oilers didn't drastically overpay by not getting some retention, but Keith is not terrible.

2nd and 3rd rounders tied up, 4th rounder traded away for Kulikov last season.
The only way Holland is adding at the deadline is to deal their first. That would be a bad idea, the only oiler players who make the team are 1st rounders.

Bear is 24, 5-11 197 and has 132 NHL games.... playing around 20 Minutes a game. He is a total -5 on the Oilers over the last 2 seasons. He is a grizzled veteran compared to what Keith was dragging around last year.
We just saw a SC final where the 167 playoff games of Corey Perry showed the value of playoff experience. Keith has 135 Playoff games all as a #1 d-man and most as the best D-man on the ice for either team.
In the playoffs Keith >>>>>> Barrie and will be for as long as he plays
The closest comparison to Keith would be Lidstrom who was very good as a 41 year old.

Good Lord!! Are you drunk??

The deal seemed too lopsided to make sense...so of course there was more involved...that makes it make even less sense.
353 days until Mavi trade request.
