A one goal lead was better than most of the options. The Flames record so far this year:
8-0 when up going into the third
3-1-2 when tied going into the third
4-3 when down 1 going into the third
2-1 when down 2 going into the third
0-2 when down 3 going into the third (both games Flames ended up losing by 1)
0-1 when down 4 going into the third

Wideman represented the best and worst of Hartley's call to give the D the green light on offence. On that first goal, I honestly thought Jooris had scored because there was no way a defenceman was crashing the net like that. OTOH, Wideman going for it set up both Duchene's and Tanguay's goals becasue Russell was left completely hung out to try. In both cases though, Russell played the rushes very, very poorly. Then Wideman goes and scores the tying goal. Ho hum, another day at the office.

In the post game interview the Fan960 guys tried to ask Kris about his three points, but he just wanted to talk about his mistake on the tanguay goal. I thought that was awesome, these guys just get it!
Could you imagine Taylor Hall talking about his mistakes in a game where he got three points?

Longest post game show ever.
I think the 43 one goal games the Flames played last year has done wonders for their confidence playing and staying with the system.

I have just finished watching the game. One thing I noticed just prior to the goal was when the cameras panned to the crowd, it looked like no one felt a need to 'beat the traffic'.
Everyone believes that this team will find a way and there'll be something to watch until that buzzer goes.

That was a fun game to watch. Has anyone else noticed how comfortable the Flames are playing 4on4? The Flames seem to dominate the play almost every time. In fact, they have a league leading 7 goals scored while playing 4on4! and I believe that it could have been a lot more. It is almost like another weapon they have to use in their arsenal.
*The next best teams 4on4 are WSH,ANA,WPG each with 4 goals.
**Calgary has only one goal against while playing 4on4.

Probably couldn't notice on TV, but when Ramo came out for the extra attacker, a cheer came from the crowd. Everyone sensed we could tie it up!

It kind of sucks that the top 5 teams in the pacific all have a 2 game winning streak minimum... A bit of breathing room would be nice haha, well hopefully we put an end to one of those streaks tomorrow night!

Wow, this goes to show how things have flipped in 30 years. The old "Oiler's Rule" eliminated 4 on 4 play when there were coincidental minors because they dominated so much in the Gretzky era. I'd like to see it reinstated as the "Flame's Rule"

and there is likely a school of thought (based in merit I would guess) that this sort of stuff is random and will even out, on the other hand you do wonder if it plays into the Flames hands- they can staple their 3rd pairing Ds on the bench, roll with their 4 active D and then their waves of fast forwards

Also didn't think this was a jab at Edmonton, more just him highlighting the team approach he takes and what Calgary has.
I did however think he dropped a little attempt to sway public opinion for the club on the new rink with his comment about how great the crowd was and something along the lines of how important it is for the "community" and how what's going on in Calgary and the building is important and special for the community etc....

Sure did. Attaboy Jooris.

I think my favorite part about that overtime goal was that it was Mackinnon who had terrible defensive awareness to let Monahan break off the wall all alone.
Mackinnon completely lost his man and didn't do much to try and and get him back.
Suck it Avs.

Because of the time difference, it is rare that I watch games live. In the past when we'd fall behind, I'd end up fast-forwarding or simply flick to the end to see the score because there was little prospect of us coming back.
Even with a small lead, if we conceded, our glass jaw and lack of fight sealed our fate.
Now it is the exact opposite. While I'd rather we never fell behind, one of the most exciting things about this group of players is that it is rewarding to watch how they deal with adversity during the games.
I never fast forward now - I watch every minute, because they just don't give up.
This past year has been pure entertainment and I love it.

You may be talking in general, but last night I thought Jooris was the best on the forecheck. Consistently not only hits, but gets on the correct side of the defender and comes away with the puck. Often from closing distances where I didn't think he had time to get in at the guy.

But I thought Mackinnon was the golden young god of hockey according to the media hullabaloo.
Cheers

This is one of the eerie similarities with the 2003-04 Flames season. That year the Flames never accepted losing, they would go hard to win every game they were losing. The difference is that year if they couldn't tie it up Oliwa, Simon and everyone else would just start pummelling the opposition before the end of the game or at the buzzer.
