I am sure a lot of Flames fans are happy that Burke traded Berra. Everytime he played people are complaining anyways. I thought both Ramo and Berra are doing a-okay job considering they are playing their first season in the NHL. I am not too dissapointed that Berra got traded especially that we received a 2nd round pick for him. I thought he's got some potential and still learning the NHL system. I thought he plays well enough but I do agree with some that he tends to give up some softies like the 1st goal last game vs the Wilds. Whenever he plays well, for some reason the Flames does not score hence for the lack of regulation time wins. Anyways, good luck on Berra and I wish him well. I hope he signs somewhere in the East next season and play lights out.

Just saw the news.

I was pretty disappointed that Cammy wasn't traded, even for a 2nd round pick and I didn't even know Berra was on the block so to speak.

Getting a 2nd is great as Berra was probably the odd man out with Ortio coming up to the NHL next season platooning with Ramo.

Good job by Burke on this one. The Jbo deal doesn't look as horrible as it did.

There's a much longer list of goalies who teams gave up on that ended up doing nothing their careers versus the extremely rare Kiprusoff-type goalies.

I think Berra's potential is vastly over-rated. The guy is already 27 - he's not a kid. Goaltender aging curves are a lot different than people believe - for the vast majority of guys, there's a pretty sharp decline in their early 30's. People love to say that goalies can play into their late 30's, but that's a fallacy that simply isn't true for 99% of the goalies out there.

The other issue is that his flaws are massive - his positioning isn't poor, it's probably the worst in the league. Ditto goes for his rebound control. Even if he does improve at one or both it's tough to go from god-awful to very good, especially in your late 20's. Even if he somehow does he's likely going to start seeing a decline in his physical tools by that point.

This trade just looks like Roy's arrogance as a rookie GM - sees a guy with great physical tools and overpays ignoring all of the warts thinking he can turn him into a superstar.

Patrick Roy is not the GM in Colorado.

He makes all of the personal decisions in conjunction with Sakic though, so in reality, yeah, he is.

Roy did this just so his kid could move up the depth chart.

I agree, I think we see an extension soon.

They see a potential good backup goaltender that has not yet reached his prime who was playing decent for a god awful team that often hangs their goaltenders out to dry.

No he isn't, but Colorado has a different organizational structure than any other NHL club where Roy is more than the coach and is in charge of personnel moves.

I have to wonder if early this season, we saw Ramo playing better but kept putting Berra out there so he gained more marketability.

So, someone correct me if I am wrong, but going into the 2014 draft we have a lottery pick, two 2nd round picks and 2 3rd round picks...?

So we keep Cammalleri, and end up getting more from Berra and Stempniak than we likely would have for just Cammalleri. Now with a chance to re-sign him and possibly try this all again next year...I'd say today worked out okay for Calgary.

Not fantastic...not terrible. I think they did good given the market.

Roy can discuss trades with teams, as does Sakic. But any deal Roy has Sakic has the last say in it.

Any chance Cammalleri's rights get traded at the draft or before July 1st for a late round pick?

Umm Patricks son plays for the Rochester Americans and is undrafted. If you are talking about Oliver, that is not his son. I dont even think that there is any relation.

It's always great to have so many picks. Even if we don't use them, they might come in handy during the draft, if we're picking lower than we want and Burke wants to move up.
