Yep. Our goaltending has been far better this year than I thought it would be.

Interesting -- I didn't realize Allaire was hired by the Avs. He must think highly of Berra's potential... which makes me cringe a bit.

Berra is no Kiprusoff! No matter what kind of voodoo tricks Roy is going to do to him.

To put this in perspective Bernier was technically traded for a 2nd, 3rd, and Matt Frattin.

Ben Scrivens who was leading the league in Save % was traded for a 3rd.

Crazy that Berra got a 2nd, even with the immense potential he has.

But one time Kipper was traded for a second..........don't you know!

A 2nd is more than I would have expected for Berra. Especially considering some of the other goalie deals over the last couple days. No complaints other than I wish there were a few more deals. Maybe they just wernt there though.

All I can think of is Roy talking to Sakic, "I'd take Retro Berra *Sakic coughs, doesn't hear the next two words, thinks "for a"* in a second."

A couple of the Burke bashers suddenly aren't participating in this thread (or are, on a non trade related issue), but this is the steal of the day IMO.

Depends how long Ramo is out for. Cause until then we've got a rookie who's played 1 NHL game liftetime and a lifelong NHL/AHL tweener in MacDonald who hasn't been that impressive in the minors lately That's hands down the least proven goaltending duo in the NHL at the moment I would think. Berra hasn't really been that bad, some people will find it hard to believe but our goaltending could have been a lot worse this year and still has the potential to go downhill.

We are in hardcore tank mode right now especially until Ramo and Stajan come back. Have you looked at the forward lines and goalies for the game tonight? Easily the worst lineup we've iced this season I'd say. And we're led in goals by a 19 year old. I mean there's always a chance the kids really impress and we look great and squeak out some wins. But if this isn't hardcore tank mode what is? I guess Cammy and Butler could be gone too but it isn't like Cammalleri or Butler has been dragging our team to victory by himself.

This is what tank mode looks like. It'll be interesting to see if we go on a tear with the kids or continue to falter. Last year was a bit different in that we still had Kiprusoff. Ortio will need to channel Kipper until Ramo comes back.

Eh, I don't mind this trade as an Avs fan. Allaire, Roy, and Giguere will be good mentors for Berra and it's a pretty weak draft. Yes, would've preferred a lower pick but eh, not gonna ruin the season or anything.

Giguere has been brutal for quite some time now, really has no ability to move laterally. I figure Berra will at least provide competent enough goaltending to not piss me off.

I didn't think Ramo was really that much better than Berra, but I guess if we have to open up a spot for Ortio, one of them has to go. I'll trust the coaches on this one. A second rounder is a decent return, can't complain about that.

So we traded Berra, for a second rounder are you freaking kidding me?

For those of you who believe Berra is nothing, I am assuming that you had all knew exactly how the kipper trade was going to play out?

Kipper wasn't in San Jose's long-term plans, so a second rounder was still a good return for the Sharks. Berra wasn't likely in Burke's long-term plans, so this is better than letting him walk and signing with Colorado as a UFA in the off-season.

At least the Flames don't have to worry about Berra becoming the Avs' starter this year and leading them past the Flames in the Conference Finals.

Should be pointed out for all the people referring the Kiprusoff trade. San Jose got a pretty good player from that 2nd round pick too.

I like Berra and think he has potential. But if you're offered a 2nd for him, that's a no brainer - especially with all the goalies that are going to be in the UFA market this summer

If I wanted to take a gamble, I would go with Berra over Scrivens.
