No it wouldn't.
Sure, that's too much money, but he is a very good player that wold help them immensely.

6x6 is classic Oilers.
Agree with Enoch, though - he's a player who helps them a lot. He fits just like he did with Matthews/Marner.

It certainly makes it harder for us to play them next year. I’d rather see the Flames counter with an alternative to improve than to stay involved in Hyman though.
He’s a really good player. A long term deal is going to be a problem, but for at least next season he would be a great add.

Call me crazy but $6M seems fair for a top 6 RW.
And if the Flames pass, or are passed on, they need to fill that role. Who do they look at?

I like Hyman but he's 29 and career high is 21 goals- if teams have cap space he helps many or most teams at 6m /yr on a one or two year deal (the Oilers could use him, he'd make them better) but he's not looking at 2 years, that's my concern

Did we just trade Neal , a perennial 20g scorer who signed for less term and less dollars and all we got was a Lucic? Look how that panned out. If Hyman could be had for a Neal contract. We should hide. Let someone else play that game.

I don't know, I guess I see this team clamoring for a natural RW and here is one that plays the style they like and would slot in fine on either of the top 2 lines and he might not be commanding that $8M everyone was afraid of. Sure the term is the killer, it always is for a UFA. You hope the first half of the deal bears fruit and then expect the decline. But thats a good chunk of the stars on this team anyhow. They're in that same age group. Go get him, run with this for the duration of Sutter's time here and then in all likelihood prepare for a rebuild where he'll be moved for picks anyway.

And he would be roughly 1/2 (between 1/2 and 2/3) the cost and 1/2 the term.

Oh my, yes. That awful deal with the Keith trade would make my summer. Come on Benning and Treliving! Negotiate to drive up the price!

Edit - Nevermind, I see he only makes $2.6M currently. For some reason thought he was in the $4M range which would mean closer to $6M in UFA

Good 2 way player who I think maybe has some additional offense to be realized - but would cost a lot less (in theory)

I don’t know if the cost would be different, but at least it would keep Ritchie from creeping up the line up.

Don't worry, Treliving will also be driving up the price on the Canuck's acquisition of OEL soon too

I guess it won't happen, but I can't see Hyman getting much more than the Toffoli deal. If so, sign me up.

The contract is going to be bonkers I'm sure, but if we're looking at Darryl's time here as one final push with this group then we need to add, and a big free agent with strong underlying numbers? Well, at least we know we'll have a good hockey player for these next few years. I look at Hyman as the anti-Neal & Brouwer, he's at least a good player getting overpaid. I'd view that as progress from overpaying bad players.
...and the 2nd half of whatever contract is signed? Well, we'll probably be rebuilding through anyways.

I hope they land him, but like I said, just not on a gross overpay. $6M to me is fair.
Armia as Plan B? Could work.
