Or maybe Button is just fair and it's nice to see someone say favorable things about the Flames, a lot of the local media here almost seem to downplay when the Flames are winning and playing good. Like yesterday when the score was 5-2 Kelly Hrudey kept going on about the Leafs and how they're this and that. I don't even know why he's on the Flames broadcasts anymore. And I don't expect or want someone to be a complete homer either, be fair.

I've noticed that Button is usually pretty high on the Flames. However, last year I was on a chairlift with Button at Lake Louise and overheard him raving about the Oilers and downplaying the Flames. I wanted to remind him of basic math (E=NG) but chose to be polite.

That set play on the Hanifin goal was the second time this year it has worked or am I misremembering?
The Flames weren't sharp but they buried their chances - so unlike them pre-Sutter.

What was the announced attendance last night? Looked like a decent crowd.

Think Rick Ball and Hrudey thought that maybe they'd bumped capacity to 12,000. But they weren't sure

As much flack as the mutants got early on, you can see why Sutter was really pushing to get bigger on the back end. Opponents need to battle for every single inch of ice out there. Add that mean streak and the pound of flesh they take when someone tries to take a little poke at Markstrom and you can see why they aren't fun to play against.

I can't believe how many times johnny was up in the zone basically 1 on 3, and managed to create time and space. Didn't always create scoring chances, but still it was unbelievable!

Not giving the puck up and not doing the button hook any more. Right through the middle.

I love in the ATL, one Oiler fan comes up with the narrative that the Flames are always outshot and goaltending bails them out and its unsustainable.
Then gets piled on by other Oiler fans for making up a false narrative.
I don't think Oiler fans are learning or getting more humble. But the continued failure of the Oilers is literally like the Iron Sheik screaming in their heads "I break your back and make you humble"

Feels like it’s always an appropriate time to thank the Canucks for Markstrom… and Tanev… and Andersson… and Tkachuk.

Was at the game last night… there was a rush up the ice by Lucic where a Toronto defender tried to stand him up… Lucic literally just rolled over him while carrying the puck. All of us in our section got a good laugh out of it… I don’t know if this is what actually happened (the defender may have just caught an edge rather that Lucic rolling over him) but it was awesome in the moment.

That was awesome. It was like something out of a superhero comic strip.

Official attendance was 9,639, half capacity (which is pretty pointless when everyone was packed into the lower bowl): https://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlrepor...2/GS020462.HTM

Things the Flames needed to do coming out of the break:
- Start winning at home (have been playing well all year at home, but without the wins)
- Markstrom needed to improve at home
- Mangiapane needed to start scoring at home
- Backlund and the 2nd line needed to start contributing
- Needed to bounce back against the top tier teams after some disappointments against Florida and Tampa on the road
The Flames have checked all of them

Oilers ATLs are the best, but Leaf ATLs are a close 2nd. That was hilarious to read.
Zadorov is a Wal-Mart Chara haha

This.
He used to try and beat the d-man wide, get cut off, button hook and turn the puck over along the boards sending a rush the other way.
To me there are two changes this year. First, he is attacking the centre, which gives him more options when he slows on the rush (or button hooks). Second, when he is trapped along the boards after failing to beat the d-man wide he is now dumping the puck instead of turning it over.
He's just making better decisions all over the ice, and it's hard to not think Daryl has helped him massively here.

Thing is, Chara was legit a top 10 Dman at all relevant times in his career. And not dirty like the poster suggested, in fact, for his size, pretty darn clean. I will take a budget Chara any day.

Yes I’ve said before I’m pretty sure Chara plays the game at 80% all the time for fear of killing someone. You can see him holding back all the time when taking players into corners and such. Neve en viewed him as dirty at all. Flames didn’t play him much though.
The dirtiest defenders that stick out in my mind are Pronger and Stevens.

Well, Marchment, Ulf Samuelsson, . But if you're talking elite Dman who are also dirty, yeah those guys, and Duncan Keith in his prime, apparently Eddie Shore.
