Hold on
Lazar has played over 170 NHL games.
Poirier has 8.
i'm going to go out on a limb and say Poirier will play more games as a Flame over the rest of this season than Poirier ever will as a Flame.

Most of the Sens fans were hoping for at most a third round pick.
Lazar is a big reclamation project. Actually can't believe he got a 2nd rounder even in a weak draft.
Would rather have the magic beans.

Disappointed. That 2nd could have been a Tim Ramholt or Mitch Wahl.

Exactly. Lazar has way more obvious potential then anyone in this year's second round does

Maybe a 4th and Poirier would've been more fair (as we don't have our third). Ex first rounder reclamation project for reclamation project.
At least make the 2nd conditional on playoff success.
|
The Senators were offered a 2nd for Lazar yesterday. They weren't getting anything less than a 2nd for him.

Again it should be pointed out that he had mono to start this season. Probably explains the drop off.

Plus flames would waste the 2nd round pick like we have done for the past 20 years!

So where do we feel he plays?
Fourth line with Stajan? who sits out on the wings? Chiasson or Bouma?
3rd line with Bennett? and move Brouwer to the 4th line?

Maybe he isn't a top 6 player in the future, but he's a good skater with decent puck skills. He's young enough that his game can transition to be effective elsewhere.
Lazar wasn't my first choice today, but I understand the reasoning here and a 2nd round in pick probably the worst draft in 5+ years isn't a terrible price.

Awesome, not sure what the problem with everyone is.
Weak draft so giving up a second rounder in the 46 to 60 range - meh
Gave away a defense man that was at best a depth guy, make room for one of our young promising guys next year (Kylington, Andersson etc.)
Get a right shooting prospect who actually plays at this level, maybe a reclamation project but at worst a very gritty 3rd or 4th liner - he is a pretty good face off man and is a relentless forechecker - nasty to play against so I like it

More i think about it, the more I think it may not be too bad. Great character guy, responsible in all zones, above average skating and just hasn't translated scoring wise. Sounds like he can carve out a niche on the bottom six somewhere. Future Bouma replacement?

Don't forget Patrick Sieloff, Hunter Smith and Mason McDonald.....
Although the last two drafts the Flames got Andersson, Kylington and Parsons in the 2nd. So you never know.
Still, who is the last Flames 2nd rounder to have an impact in the NHL? EDIT: Since 2000, it's Markus Granlund apparently, which is kind of scary.

Crap draft. Weak draft. Garbage draft. This year's crop of teenagers is very disappointing!
Funny how these things work out. Lazar was highly-touted in a strong draft just a few years ago and here we are. It's almost like drafting isn't an exact science, and oftentimes the experts don't know ####.
All I know is that 2nd rounder could turn out to be a great player. Or Lazar could become a star in a new situation. Could be good for both teams. Or could be bad for both. Or could be a wash. I guess my crystal ball ain't so crystal clear.

Hahah Change the first Poirier in the last sentence to Lazar. Makes way more sense
EDIT: Not that I agree with him. I think Emile may take a touch longer but I'm still hoping we'll see him up fulltime at some point in the next three seasons. If he can't transition by then I'll agree he's a bust.

because the Sens rushed him into the NHL and oilered his development, not because Lazar has been so good.
