Well, at least we didn't have to wait all trade deadline day without a Flames trade. Thanks Brad.

Don't think the organization is a fan of this draft.
Think the trades to use picks to get guys that could help us now, while still fitting the right age range (21 & 26) is a pretty big sign of that.
Cost is high but the kid is still just a first rounder from only 3 1/2 seasons ago.
Never know if being back in Western Canada is a better fit for him and he becomes a decent bottom 6 contributor.

I made no error in my post. He looked fine as a rookie, has trended down since then.

I like it. Hopefully the change in scenery will help Lazar find his game.
Surprised the Oilers weren't in on this, as they seem to enjoy collecting all of the former Oil Kings.

So are people really getting wound up about potentially losing a kid that a bunch of others are saying has underperformed?
Is that really the worst case scenario if we lose Lazar? It would be like trading a 2nd round pick to Las Vegas to leave the other guys alone.

Hard to really love or really hate this.
One thing I know for sure is that people really love magic beans. Or hate them. Depends.
|
basically my thinking too...
kid is only 21-22... but has been mainly with the NHL club i believe...
Lazar for a 2nd is really what it boils down to... in this year's draft, that 2 is more like a 3rd in other years (this is something Burke said on the radio this morning)...

Ditto.
This is a bad draft, Kevin sucks, and Lazar has potential. Clearly our scouts and our GM see something in Lazar.
He also fits into the biggest organizational hole we have - a right handed right-winger.
There's upside here.

My bleh was directed towards Vrbata.
To conclude my stance:
Vrbata - bleh
Lazar - cool

lots of people here think Poirier is a bust. Lazar is from the same draft class and hasn't done more than Poirier. Is it really that surprising that not everybody on here is jumping for joy that the Flames gave up a 2nd for Lazar? It's bad value.

What difference does it make how many games he's got. You claim wrong philosophical direction which couldn't be more wrong. It would be if we gave up the pick for a mature player, but we didn't.
Totally fair if you think the 2nd in this years draft would be a better young talent than Lazar. But it's not a "wrong philosophical" move for the club. They swapped young developing asset for young developing asset.

You'd just end up flipping out and getting mad at who they selected anyways. This quickens the process for you.

I look at it as we drafted Lazar with that pick and bought a few years of development.
Draft picks outside the 1st round are a total crapshoot anyways. Relax.

you don't have to jump for joy but a 2nd in THIS DRAFT is VERY unlikely to be an NHLer even so why cry about it?
its worth a shot

Poirier has 1 assist and 0 goals in 8 NHL games.
Lazar has 36 points in 176 NHL games.
I'm not a huge fan of this deal but let's be real here, Lazar has a chance

Sometimes centres need some time, and perhaps some organizational support, to really develop their potential.
Think Backlund four years ago - he got both and look where he is at today.
