Can someone, please, explain what happened there that got Peters (and everyone here) so riled up? Wrong call? Bad call? What has actually happened?
I didn't watch either but here is what I have pieced together:
1) Gio gets called for a weak penalty to put the Flames down on a 5 on 3, on which Kadri scored.
2) With the goalie pulled later on, a shot by the leafs goes wide and stayed on the side of the net. Kinda looks like a goal to some, but obviously isn't to the back ref. Puck is knocked loose, Flames turn up the ice 2 on 0 with an empty net, then the whistle blows for reasons unknown.

That was probably their best defensive game all season, and ranks with the Colorado game for best overall effort. Their neutral zone play was noticeably frustrating for the leafs. Won’t count my chickens before they show that they can build on it and play with that intensity and composure consistently. Smith was there when he needed to be, and I hope he makes his way to league average goaltending over the season.
I echo what people have been saying about hamonic. He really does seem to have provided some stability to hanifin and the defensive balance. Big game from Brodie, and Rasmus continues to be awesome. Lindholm was quite a force all over the ice. Hope czarnik comes back in next game.
Oh, and nhl officiating continues to be disgraceful

No explanation needed. Just a guy doing his job and thinking to himself that turning leafs fans from happy they scored to shocked that they got scored against would be too big a toll for him to handle for the evening.
Instead, he decided that robbing the leafs of a goal that they didn't score (or even come within a foot of scoring) would be hard enough on him, and that centre ice seemed fair... Just because.

All the Leafs forwards are incapable of accepting a pass (in their own zone near the blueline) along the boards. Connor Brown is one of the worst. Marleau is bad too. All of them. A couple observations...
1. Toronto plays like **** at home. They can't score and don't compete hard at home, IMO
2. They get outworked considerably by ****ty, scrappy, teams. The Ottawa games and this game are primes examples. Toronto has significant talent advantages over these teams but they're soft and their skill gets suffocated because they don't match their intensity.
Long season and it's obviously a big difference without Matthews and Nylander, but man do they get out worked.

Gio was trying to clear the front of the net and gave JT a shove who then kind of glided into the net and knocked it off. refs gave Gio an interference giving Toronto a 5 on 3 with a couple minutes left. Kadri scored.
Then Rielly got a shot on net, and someone on the Leafs deflected it, not sure who, the puck went straight down to the side of the net and looked sort of like it went in so the Leafs all started celebrating in the corner. Back ref was about to blow the whistle for a goal but then noticed that it was actually on the outside of the net so the play continued. Brodie took it off the back of the net and passed it up ice where we had a partial 2 on 0 with an empty net which would have been a sure goal. but the ref blew it down at the red line, seemingly because Toronto was still celebrating and wasnt paying attention. To make matters worse (for the refs) they then had a faceoff at centre ice which is basically admitting that the whistle blew for no reason.

That no goal situation reminded me of that game from last year(can't remember against who) when the ref ruled it a Flames goal on the ice, then he reviewed it and said the call on the ice stands, no goal. One of those situations that a competent ref would look at and cringe.
