Always love a Flames win but let’s not pretend we haven’t seen this rodeo for the last 20 years shall we?

If they consistently play like they care for 10-20 games I’ll very happily change my tune that the players don’t really care enough. To be successful we need consistent efforts like this night in and night out not once every few games and then get all cocky and lazy if things go well for awhile.
I’m confused.....only the glass half full crowd is subject to appropriate sample size before they can say I told you so, but the glass half empty crowd is allowed to over react and drive a holistic narrative based on single game outcomes?

Living in Toronto and having to listen to this one on the radio for the first time in forever. Good god is Joe Bowen insufferable. Not even attempting to call the game down the middle, really makes you appreciate the ability Maher used to have of being largely impartial to the flames, or appearing that way anyway.

Listening to Bowen freak out after the Leafs “tied it” to the quiet shame after finding out it was sitting on the back of the net was worth the suffering, though!

I suspect that is exactly what they would say. But I’d love to know exactly when the whistle was blown. If it’s blown when the puck is in the netting or the ref loses sight of it, OK. A little premature but I can live with it. But seems like it was blown well after that.

I love it. The Flames should not stand for this level of incompetence and the officials should be called out for this.

Serious question here- and I should know this, but do the refs normally blow the whistle if the puck is sitting on the back of the net? Can’t remember. I know they blow it when on top of net. Though then it should have been blown dead right away- not when we were about to score an empty netter.

Is there a player in the league that looks happier than lindholm when he scores?

I love this guy.

If the puck is "frozen". Flames were a little late to get there but they clearly popped it off without any issue, so usually that's a live play.

You’re missing the 25 years of misery which some are sitting on. Sometimes it’s hard not to think you’ve seen this movie before.

Let’s enjoy the win. Best first period Flames have played this year that I can think of. Leafs may have had 8 high danger chances but a whole bunch came after it was 2 to zero.

I know some people don’t like advanced stats but they have been really good together in the 4 games they’ve played together.

Minutes Played: 57
Corsi For: 64% (79 For, 45 Against)
Shots For: 67% (40 For, 20 Against)
High Danger Scoring Chances: 79% (22 For, 6 Against)
Offensive Zone Start: 51.4%

A small sample size but Those are unreal numbers and it’s not like they are getting force fed offensive zone starts or playing exclusively with the Backlund line (20 minutes with Backlund so about a third of total ice time).

If they can keep anything close to that performance up, and if Brodie/Gio can play like they did tonight more frequently then this team will be set for our top 4 for sure.

Is that a certainty? That is what I saw too, but you couldn’t hear much with the goal horn and fans going crazy.

Also a serious question, does it matter in this situation. If they didn’t blow it down when it was on the back of the net, and they didn’t blow it down to signify a goal (which they didn’t I don’t believe) then the problem is they had no reason to blow it down when they did, other than a bunch of Leafs celebrated a non goal which isn’t a reason to blow down play.

It's too early to tell. He will be needed this year at some point for sure. Having an insurance policy is never a bad idea

More media, coaches, gms need to do what Peters did tonight. Call that bull#### officiating out and hopefully after enough noise something will be done about it.

Were there a lot of Flames fans? Sounded pretty loud when we scored.

That penalty to lead to that 5 on 3 was such BS. Flames dominated that game from start to finish. Could’ve easily been a blow out

Dunno, the risk is that you piss off the officials. We lived through that once already.

I'm all in favour of increased accountability for the refs, but I'm not sure we want to be the standard-bearers of that movement.

You have to admit. It is a little easier to get behind a coach who is willing to let a little of his emotion and frustration show.

Maybe the Gulutzan Flames crumbled
under adversity because they felt victimized, instead of getting angry?
