I know we worry about these things as fans, but I honestly do believe that most hockey players are the type of people who, when offered $56-64M, will say yes unless the situation is a complete tire fire.

I would do this...

Haha, have we really become this thirsty for validation?

They are complex and expensive to establish and furthermore to defer that tax one also needs to defer the income.

So if you want the house, cars, jewelry, etc. you're going to need your money so it isnt as simple as just getting all your pay and smoothing out your tax liability over time, there are opportunity costs as well.

So yeah, lower tax jurisdictions are certainly going to have an advantage.

He's going to be competing for attention with Kodak Black and that man puts on a show...
As long as your wife doesn't get you a Huberdeau or Weegar jersey we should be fine...regardless of tax implications.

Given recent events and the immediate talk of both Huberdeau and Weegar needing new contracts... Seems notable that he posted something positive about joining a new team.

Yeah, there's only 1 Gary Leeman.

Tkachuk is a good player so it won't go like that, but what I meant is I could see it going negative quickly if he doesn't keep up top 10 in the league type performances.

Who is choosing Winnipeg over Anaheim if they have no ties to either city and the money is equal in both?

If your place of employment said you can transfer to Nunavut or San Diego, where would you go?

I think the city and the weather are big factors for players.

If you make 50 million Canadian, you could amortize that to 600K Canadian a year over 60 years you could get your income tax down to about 40% a year, which would be comparable with US jurisdictions (assuming they do not have a similar vehicle to a RCA).
Yeah it’s a good solution for these situations, no question. It’s undoubtedly a good idea for professional athletes because they aren’t always planning for their future after sports, which this also solves. If anything, a lower tax regime, like Alberta, makes these scenarios work a lot better than other places where the tax burden is higher.

Miami will sink into the sea with global warming. Better to stay at high altitudes!

Well, it is true. But what I am saying a lot is that the Flames have essentially added one Huberdeau and subtracted. I’m not confident in Huberdeau’s ability to generate anything close to 115 points without a high end RW and therefore, that would lead to an overall regression in team goals and very likely, less wins as well. So IMO, it’s vital the team adds a top line RW.

Happy they lost Gaudreau? No
Happy they won this trade? Yes

They don't have to be connected into one package for me.
I get that, but it’s very much connected to me. I’m not necessarily ragging on the pieces of the trade specifically, more so the direction of the trade. Like I said, I would’ve preferred the team go the route of trading for young A+ prospects who could’ve turned into franchise players for a decade +

I do understand at the very least, Huberdeau and Weager could be moved for additional pieces which would contribute to the overall picture. Altogether, the fear still remains that the players could play out the year, end up with a quick playoff exit and be lost to free agency with the team ending up with very little to show for Matthew Tkachuk. But that would be the worst case scenario.

Most people that think that Florida has great weather haven't really spent much time in Florida.
