It’ll be interesting to see what Huberdeau says to the media tomorrow.
If he’s not game to go extension right away, it’s time to move on. This team can’t do what they did with Johnny again. You have to learn as you move forward.
...Losing 219 points is a gargantuan loss any way you slice it...
You can't keep saying this after the Flames just picked up a 115 pt. player. Besides, these things never work out so precisely. Even if one of Gaudreau's or Tkachuk's offense is not completely replaced, a huge percentage of it will be just by plugging the hole with a player who will not fin8sh the season with 0 pts.

Interesting way of spinning it. The reality is that you have Gaudreau and Tkachuk both committed to their new teams for eight years, while Huberdeau and Weegar are committed to the team through this season. The Flames are in the same situation they were just in, just kicking the can down the road a bit. They still have to get both players under contract long-term for this be a big win. If they sign long-term I fully expect the value of those contracts to be close to $16M+. Keep that in mind as you mull over the flexibility, especially when each additional player added prior to the extension of these players works against the amount can be spent to extend these two. Without these two under contract, the comparison between the state of Gaudreau and Tkachuk is not a fair comparison. Even with these two players we are still a forward short to possibly maintain last season's outcome.
Then kick the can down the road. Perpetually. There's more than one way to build and rebuild a team.
I am as shocked as you are Dino7c at the return that Tkachuk got. After all, he is a worse skater than Lucic. I am impressed that you have backtracked on your opinion that he won’t put up anywhere close to 104 points again because Florida, like other teams don’t have elite players to play with absolute studs like Tkachuk.
Your victory lap is tiresome, Brad made a good trade. When intelligent people said they the return should be similar to the Seth Jones trade (3 top 12 first round picks) they were told that was just to set the table to say that Brad sucks because Tkachuk sucks and is not worth that. Brad made a great trade, lots of people have said it, but you are the last person who should be crowing, you sat on this site for the previous 4 days say Tkachuk was dog####. It should shock you as much as anyone, given how terrible the 104 point Matthew Tkachuk is.
Backtracked? I said he was a very good player but not top 5 ect.
I will bet anyone here $100 Tkachuk won't score 100 this season
Everyone but Oilers fans and the usual suspects think it's a steal for the Flames so I'm pretty thrilled not gonna lie
We could literally have 4 first round picks after all is said and done for the Chucky trade even if worst case things go terrible trying to resign these guys.

Really comes down to the Flames needing to butter him up a bit and treating him like gold. There’s an opportunity here as he probably doesn’t feel wanted and it’s a tough pill to swallow considering he gave it all for them.
Anyway, as a side note if he doesn’t sign I could totally see him being a perfect line mate with Ovechkin. Considering Backstrom isn’t there any more would there be a better for Ove? I could also see Washington giving up that coveted big package.
I could have sworn they said the players would be there today at the availability. Then everyone was unsure of the time of it. I bet it was real aged to him being caught off guard and not up for it. Too bad, it would be nice to get out from all the uncertainty this off season. Would love to just be able to put the phone down and not wondering when player c will sign or be traded.

Well, do we know what the other trade proposals were from other teams? Because that’s how you would ultimately compare. I’m sure someone will leak that out to an insider in the coming days.
Nope - it's not relevant. They had 1 year of MT left and he, like JG could have walked for nothing (or maybe brought a decent pick at the TDL at best). We got a few permanent pieces and a few pieces to try to make permanent. Any of those beat the "nothing" we got for JG (excluding a big middle finger).
Worst arena in the league. Poor playoff success. Established history of in/out/in/out playoff appearances. Very public display of elite players bailing on the market (Fox, Gaudreau, Tkachuk).

Flames won big. The only way they lose if if Huberdeau walks free
But I won’t be surprised if Tkachuk gets 100 pt with Barkov and a relatively stacked team
Even if Huberdeau walks that trade is a win because we will clean up again trading him and then start the rebuild with lots of bullets in the chamber now and down the road.
