Calgary awarded $228M from feds’ Housing Accelerator Fund
https://calgary.citynews.ca/2023/11/...tor-fund-deal/
Quote:
The City of Calgary and the federal government have inked a $228 million deal Tuesday which will fund initiatives aimed at increasing the city’s housing supply.
The agreement, under the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF), supports seven strategies that will fast-track over 6,800 housing units over the next three years.
The measures include prioritized and accelerated approvals, zoning bylaw amendments that allow for more missing middle rowhouses, townhouses, and infill housing in established neighbourhoods, and inclusive and affordable housing development.
|
Terrific news, and very much needed in this city. That amount of funding can build lots of housing. This investment is likely without provincial involvement, so I'm sure Smith is steaming mad about that.

The Premier is gonna be pissed if the City didn't go through her people first.

She can go ahead and call the waaambulance if she wants to stand in the way of millions for housing. How can that be justified? What a ####ty premier. Get over yourself already.

Perhaps there needs to be some sort of audit, review, war room, plebiscite...something!
They can't possibly allow this. Trudeau must be stopped from giving money to Alberta cities. Directly to the wallets of provincial staffers only!

Damn you CP. Like 2 - 3 years ago ya'll were discussing how sad it was that Glamorgan bakery was closing, so I never went back up there. Then suddenly last week I was in that parking lot, looked over and thought wtf?!
Went in and it was open as it's ever been, got a really nice doughnut.

Just got a scoop at the local Barbershop- IYYC burger is coming to Haysboro to the little strip mall on Elbow around 96th Ave. I think they just started construction so not sure when they will open.
Never unhappy about a good burger place moving into the hood!

With the Stonyslope Brewery opening last year, that little strip mall is having a nice little revival. Too bad the pool hall isn’t still around.

Zara has re-opened in Chinook with a huge footprint but I couldn't find any men's section? What was previously the men's section in the back is self-checkouts and changing rooms lol. Am I just blind?

Ha, the pool hall. I used to live in Haysboro in the 90s and one night we went there. It was basically empty so my friends and I just hung out that night and drank beer. We started to get hungry and we asked if they had food. They didn't have any real food, but the guy said we could buy toast (?). So we started ordering toast. A bunch of it. The toaster ended up breaking and could no longer make toast. We never went back as far as I can remember. Scintillating story, I know.

We went to that pool hall for math class one time.
I went to Scarlett and the kids who were in English 30 that semester all got to go to the movies to watch the Mel Gibson Hamlet, which had just been released.
I wasn't in English that semester, but most of my Math 31 class was, so there was only a handful of us in class that day. Our teacher piled us into his minivan and we "learned practical physics" at the pool hall. There were a couple of old timers hanging out who showed us a bunch of trick shots.

While that is great, but who do they expect to build all of them? It’s not like there are a bunch of framers sitting in the side line.
