If you've already seen Ted Cruz fornicate with a manatee, and Roseanne Barr ride a unicycle through an Olive Garden naked, and this was the last item on your checklist? Well I'm happy to complete that for you.

fotze is 100& right about the safeway drop off after the Sobeys merger. There was definitely a push to cut costs and quality around that time.

Its not even that. Two of my kids had High School jobs at Sobeys, one in the meat department and another in the Bakery. They did everything fresh, baking bread, cutting meat, etc.

Something else changed.

Safeway also used to have very good donuts, which changed into junk around the same time as the Sobeys merger.

^ Bagels too. Although Co-op does great bagels in-store, as well as other breads. In fact, I like Co-op’s bakery more than I ever liked Safeway’s. But that’s the extent of my Co-op shopping: bread. Everything else is too damned expensive.

Coop's bakery quality and offerings have improved a lot over the last 1.5 years or so (basically since they rebranded - whenever that was.) I can't remember what they are called but you have to try the filled croissant pastries at Coop. They are croissant pastry but kind of folded/rolled into a ball, filled with 5 or 6 different fillings and sprinkled with sugar.

Even when we shopped mainly at Safeway because it was our local grocery store, we went to Co-op for baking and deserts. Using real cream and butter makes a huge difference.

it's weird. same with me. I have no idea why Safeway banana's are sooo much better than Costco's. That's pretty much all I buy from safeway. Other than than the times they have prime rib on sale.

Speaking of bananas, we bought a bunch a week ago. All were green at the time. A week later two of them are as green as the day we bought them, the rest all turned yellow.

Gotta get that skyscraper geek money.

While that article was focused on buildings, it goes without saying the Peace bridge is a big part of this conversation too.
