Goaltending market is flooded, so you are most likely stuck with Vladar.

So many players on various teams not wanting to re-sign this season will likely flood the market as well. I would have to assume this would decrease the value of players (I pray I'm wrong).

I'm actually oK with Vladar taking the reigns and if the Flames is going to be in rebuild mode. But Markstrom - for another 3 years!!!!

I still think people are jumping prematurely to conclusions. According to the article posted above from the local reporter, here is what we know:

"Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reported Thursday that the Flames 'recently made a big pitch (and) rolled out the red carpet' in extension talks with first-line centre Elias Lindholm but 'haven’t been given definitive answer yet.' ...

"According to Seravalli, Hanifin has 'clearly indicated' that he doesn’t plan to stick around.

"There’s also been speculation that Mikael Backlund, a fixture at the Saddledome for so long that he and the 51-year-old Conroy were once teammates, is serious about chasing a silver-stick and a Stanley Cup elsewhere. ...

"Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Thursday that Conroy already has made Tyler Toffoli available to potential suitors."

It looks to me like the Flames and Lindholm are still negotiating, Hanifin has indicated he wants to move on, there is uncertainty about what Backlund wants to do, and Toffoli is already on the trading block after voicing his preference to move on.

I see definitive reports of only Hanifin and Toffoli who have declined an extension.

I'm seriously nervous about the next couple of weeks. I like Conroy, and I think under normal circumstances and a regular off-season scenario he'd be fine, but he's being thrust into managing a crisis and doing his best to get prime assets back from other GM's that know he's just starting out in the job and hasn't yet got his feet wet.

I really hope he's leaning on Maloney and Nonis right now. He needs their experience to know what's a good deal and what's not.
