Checked my sink and it is purely glued on like polak's (2013 highrise condo build)
Dammit polak, I wouldn't have thought twice about filling my sink halfway but here we are.
Hope things work out for you because that is absolutely ridiculous.
To be fair, my engineering brain tells me that epoxy is ridiculously strong and I'd be more scared of breaking my granite than the epoxy failing. But this is just crazy.

Do you know for sure epoxy was used, or was it silicon?

I am paranoid and have to go check now....but then again my place is 8 years old.....it would have failed before now.....right?
That raises an excellent question of mine, why would you stand in the sink if not to also jump in it? It makes no sense.
Ha ha man this made me laugh.
Anyway, I just checked my sink and it's bolted in at every corner, but no straps. Yay early 90s?
On a related note, I took my burly industrial flashlight to have a look under there and clicked it on and got no light. Clicked a few more times, furrowed my brow, then looked right into the bulb and clicked it on and off a few more times and still nothing. What a gyp!
Then realized there's a flashlight on my phone. Yay 2014!

You can't say that in 2016, you windowlicker.

I still hear "gyp" somewhat often and no one bats an eye. But use "jew" or "indian give" as a verb, and people go crazy. People seem to have no respect for gypsies man.

You should draw a line halfway up on the inside of your sink...

But you are making the assumption that the epoxy or silicone was applied correctly. From what I know, the strap is added reinforcement but another real purpose is to allow the sink to set properly and the epoxy/silicone to cure without being disturbed. If it's missing, it may have shifted?
I checked mine yesterday and thankfully it's strapped.
Just to clarify the strap arrangement that is being discussed, would it be installed side to side when standing in front of the sink, not front to back? The reason I ask is that my double sink has one side way bigger than the other.
Mine actually partially failed a couple of years ago, but it was done by the previous homeowner on a much older house. No water loss thank goodness. It is actually held up with a bunch of wooden blocks that are affixed with PL adhesive overlapping the granite and the sink flange. I cleaned it up and put a bunch more blocks on, but now I am thinking I will either strap it or build a frame under it.
