If we signed Rasmus right now to 8 x 9 or 8 x 8 or anything - I suspect you aren't getting a ton more for him and you'd have less teams interested.
|
Yes, the difference is significant
Edit: Less teams would be interested in him, for starters. Which automatically reduces competing offers.

Highly agree, NMCs should be extremely limited and valuable commodities, and attaching them to multiple contracts is a critical failure of team management. Internal policy should be to lock it to like 3-4 contracts, and the rest you have to pay for.

I really hope you are wrong. If you put him in the lineup at this point, that is complete negligence with a trade being so close.

At least no team (Vegas, Dallas) has an advantage then! Everyone’s on the same level. Let the bidding commence

Hey, if you're trying to get under the cap, squeezing guys for $250,000-$500,000 less is hugely valuable. But when you do that, you have to be fine with dealing with the consequences.
They gave Jarome Iginla a full no-move, which kept his cap hit down. That's fine, but then you have to be fine with him having a stance on where he ends up (e.g., Pittsburgh over Boston).

The wheels are already in motion, its coming down to contract talk(s) and ensuring the value matches the final solution.

So, with these two posts, with Royle9 pluralizing "contract(s)", and dissentowner saying Ras is not extending, perhaps someone else is working on a contract in a trade?

Damned if you do damned if you don’t.
Calgary, and basically every other Canadian team, uses no movement or some sort of player control to entice players in negotiations. I don’t think the Flames have the ‘currency’ to dictate to players on these items in the same way Vegas, Florida, or other markets might.

Or it is a tactic to up the price.
If a team doesn't want him to play tonight then add something to the deal to make them close the deal.

I also respect Rasmus less for the contract shenanigans. Yes, it's his right but being exclusive to only 1-2 teams obviously hampers us considerably, and he knows that too. I respect the player and his work for us, but I hate when it gets like this at the end. Bitter millionaires.
|
He has the right to re sign with any team or test free agency.
It sucks for the Flames but our management should know this is a reality.

I'm quite certain that the risk is 99% on Calgary if they do this and only 1% on the interested teams.

So, you don't offer Gridin, Bahl, Kuznetsov etc. any trade protection because you've already given it to McKenna, Parekh, Wolf and Reschny. And you don't sign any skilled UFAs.
Firm rules lead to bad practices.

Exactly. I don't think we should hold it against a player for not wanting to sign a contract just anywhere. It's gravy if they do, but it shouldn't be an expectation.

Dreger says that many believe it is likely Kadri gets traded
He also says that if Conroy gets what he needs from Andersson and Kadri (if he gets traded) trades, that it is unlikely Coleman gets traded. He is downplaying how high Coleman is on trade boards saying the Flames want to keep him for the same reasons other teams want him.
