With secs 2 gifs I would think it’s Coleman is close to going to Dallas. That said he did thank flam1234 post about Detroit being out.

I think Conroy has severely underestimated how hard it was going to be to get quality players after the purge a few seasons ago. The cap space that opened up and was to be weaponized, both to use funds to sign UFAs, and to take picks to take on bad contracts, didn’t materialize and now not nearly as many teams have a cap crunch, and the Flames aren’t any further along because they didn’t/weren’t able to use it. Some UFAs, quality ones and or rentals (aka similar to Mantha) said thanks but no thanks and trades didn’t materialize either as anticipated or fell through.
As a result he’s well behind on the timeline where he thought this team would be in Jan 2026, when he ditched Zadorv and Hanifin and Lindholm etc, to be, probably by at least one full season.
If they ditch Anderson and Coleman and potentially Kadri, it can’t be for marginal returns just to tank, because even if they tank and the get lucky on some of the magic beans (and those are big ifs) there’s no guarantee they are going to be able to simply acquire good established players to properly supplement those young players and their development, after the new building opens.

I tend to agree here.
I think the Flames target (or at least what has long been believed) of being competitive by the time the new arena opens was and is, highly optimistic. At this point pretty much unachievable. Even if they bottom out this year and next (look at Chicago, 3 years for them and looking like it could be 4) and pick in the top 3 both years, good chance those kids are not hitting their stride until 28/29. I guess there is also the chance they pick Joseph and he turns out to be the next Mario Lemieux. Maybe then they can compete for the playoffs.
Regardless so much can happen between now and the new arena, so who the hell knows, but from my seat from 30,000 feet away, I’m squinting real hard to see how this team is competing by 27/28. They’ll need one or two very favourable things to happen, most likely draft lottery wins and absolute studs with both picks.

IMO it is still possible that the Flames are competitive year 1 of the new arena. Ras, Coleman and Kadri are good players, but they are not top line players. It's not like we are trading Quinn Hughes here. Backlund likely will be gone or a 4th liner by the time the new arena opens, but after that there are still a bunch of similar players that can replace these guys on the team. This team did miss the playoffs by a point last year.
Wolf is not having a good year, neither is Weegar. They are probably our 2 best players. It will take an impact prospect or 2 and those prospects need to outperform Kadri and Ras but Parekh and whoever we draft this year if we can get one of the top guys can replace Kadri and Ras.

Gonna try reverse psychology today...
Today is NOT a good day for a Rasmus Andersson trade. #Makeawish

First GIF - I'm assuming Detroit is out because no extension opportunity, deal blew up.
Second GIF - They wanted the shiny toy and came close but no dice

Time to blow it up. Trade will happen in Calgary I think. Conroy won’t want to trade a player away from home and leave them in another city.

Conroy almost took his ball and went home, but ended up leaving it in the trade pool.

I know people are getting antsy and concerned, know that it IS happening here.
The wheels are already in motion, its coming down to contract talk(s) and ensuring the value matches the final solution.
