I have quickly developed a dislike for that weasel of a head coach they hired last year in Woodcroft. The guy carries himself with an arrogance that really irks me. I really hope last year was just the new coach bump and the Oilers fall back to their typical hot and cold play that comes with having 2 top 5 players on their team while also having an extremely mediocre blueline and goaltender.
He's like the puppet I'm too terrified to create myself:

Oiler fans coming up with the theory that Huberdeau and Weegar lead the way in the 4AM strip club rumours when down 3-0 in the Tampa series and thats why Zito was willing to trade both ahahaha
Remember when Philly dumped Carter and Richards because they partied too much?
I don't remember what happened after that, but I'm sure the Flyers went on to win multiple Stanley Cups while Carter and Richards never had any further success. One thing I'm sure of is that they're the types of player who would never have any success playing for a coach like Darryl Sutter.

But let's say it's true for the sake of argument - that means we got them at a discounted price.
Remember when Johnny and Monahan were rumoured to be partying too much? If Treliving had traded them at that time, for that reason, it would have been a bad decision.
People like to have a good time, this isn't news. And if those players (or any other players) made a bad decision, they will learn from it.
Yeah, this narrative reminds me of the circumstances behind Phimadelphia's decision to move Richard's and Carter. They were shipped to LA in a fantastic deal, and then went on to win two Stanley Cups.
I am pretty okay with history repeating itself.

Well, Carter had a quick stop in Columbus but the point still stands.
Most of my Oilers buddies were never happy with the off-season, mainly that once again they completely ignored their holes on the back end.
They got Campbell ...
Who is a good low to medium danger shot stopper, the only problem is that the Oilers require a high danger shot stopper the way they play and the lack of defense in front of him. Without Kris Russell blocking shots, I think Kulak aside, the Oilers are worse this season on defense. Kris is available if they want to resign him... also, I wonder how long before Smith has a remarkable recovery from LTIR and Campbell (cough cough) has an injury to sit out.I really don't see how Campbell fits the Oilers need here - and they have him signed for 5 years (and Nurse for 8)
Campbell is getting the start tonight. The implosion may be spectacular.
I know right... this could be interesting against that team who has no problem finding the back of the net. He is their number one goalie, and you can't pull him and then skip him two games in a row - but if he fails, this is going to be fun to watch - get the popcorn.
I see Campbell as a downgrade from Koskinen, even with that glove hand, but at least he was good at those high danger chances.

I just have my doubts that Smith is keeping himself in game shape at all. I suspect that after he discussed his *cough cough* injury with management he's gone full on Big Lebowski and is in no way ready to play in the NHL.

You may be right.
Well ... the Oilers have to tighten up defensively then if they have any hope of saving Campbell - is that even possible with their mentality is another question. He is not a bad goalie if he has a resemblance of a defense in front of him.

Such an amazing theory. Why didn’t their brilliant GM get involved?
I’m much more certain that the oilers don’t hold any moral high ground on anything whatsoever.
And I’m still scratching my head about this; is the point that flames got players cheaply, or that players were possibly out and they are of poor moral quality? Maybe they think they are doing flames a favour by telling us because they were all there too and saw it. Please inform them that it’s too late…..arrggghhhh we already signed them!! The information came too late.
Oh dear. How sad. Never mind.

It's early-onset trauma in northern Alberta as the Oilers have surrendered the first goal in three straight home games and dropped two of them. Jack Campbell was pulled from Saturday's loss to Calgary after allowing four goals on 11 shots. He has a 5.98 goals-against average and a .851 save percentage in two starts.
