I did similar math too.

Gaudreau was significantly better offensively than McDavid last season. when you included only even strength, it wasn’t even remotely close.

even if you want to make the argument that Gaudreau wouldnt be as effective with more minutes, insert average 2/3 line winger production into those minutes, and the combined Gaudreau/minute filler points are still higher than McDavid.

i believe that McDavid was only around 40th in the league in Even Strength Points/60 min. Gaudreau was 1st, and the difference between him and 2nd place (Tkachuk) was similar to the difference between 2nd and 40th.

EDIT: heres the stats in question, my stats above are slightly hyperbolic, but Mcdavid was 30th, among players who plsyed 25 games, nearly a point per 60 min behind Gaudreau.

related to that conversation, Matthew Tkachuk is the only player in NHL history to score 100 points or more with a TOI/g of less than 18 minutes.

(edit the NHL only has TOI stats since 1997, so the stat is since then)

Calgary - L

My guess is they probably go .500 or so over the next 6. But even a 4-5-0 record to start the season isn't very good when 6 of 9 were at home.
More like

Carolina - Baaaad Loss
St Louis - Pins them in their end and clobbers them
Pittsburgh - 3 games 14 goals, that's a paddling
St Louis - Halfway through the game we hear a voice from the rafters, "Finish them" and we get the ultimate fatality as Parayko fires a slap shot through Campbells chest and into the night for the Blue's 14'th goal of the game.
Chicago - Win
Calgary - The Flames forecheck them into the ice, leaving the Flames end in pristine condition for 58 minutes. At the end of the game Conna grabs the microphone and does a WWE style promo calling the Edmonton Crapmonton and he and Draisatil declare a New World Order of Hockey that doesn't include Edmonton.

that's right the Oilers go 1-5 to end their home stand at 2-7. Woodcroft is fired by skype and Mc-T steps behind the bench.

It wouldn’t matter because if they finish bottom 3 in the league Draisaitl and McDavid are asking for trades. They will just be doing a rinse and repeat again….. I would love to see them finish bottom 3.

Dylan Holloway has 0G, 0A, 0P, -2, 40% SAT%, and has a whopping 6:46 TOI/GM

He has had a couple terrible cough-ups, and was demolished with an open ice hit last night.

How to ruin a prospect...

Then they run out of depth.

The Flames are -0.4, -2.2, -3.8, -4.8, -4.9 in the same analysis.

Also interesting ... the Flame go net positive for forwards 6-9 which really shows depth. Slightly negative for forwards 10-12. This is what a third line does for a team.

Sure. But what’s the crossover per shift ratio? Oilers fanboys errrr snet commentators already told us that crossovers….oh the crossovers… (swoon) were the main thing.

Woody’s going to be asked for his Skype account soon!

You mean he's not NHL ready after scoring 6 points in the preseason, including a hatty against Vancouver's AHL team?

How can that possibly be?!?

He's a decent prospect that's been badly overhyped by the Oilers and their fans. He's not the mythical steal as a mid first round pick that people are making him out to be.

But he's clearly not ready for the speed of the NHL game. I mean he looked good against preseason lineups because the games aren't super fast or physical.

But he's like a half second behind on his decision making and hockey sense. He should be in the AHL to be honest, gaining comfort and confidence.

But the Oilers need him to be absolutely good because frankly they don't have anyone else that can be good.

His giveaways. Staring at the puck on the pass and getting absolutely wrecked on a suicide pass by Foegele who should know better.

If Edmonton ended up drafting first overall, 31 GMs would be marching on Bettman’s home with torches and pitchforks.

“Homegrown Player” aka middling prospect thrust into the NHL before he’s ready…because Edmonton.

Hear the Coyotes are shopping Shayne Ghostisbiere, assume the Oilers are the front runner like every other player that might be available

If I'm a team with a spare decent blueliner and Edmonton comes calling, I set my price to maximum and if they tell me Holloway is off the board, then I hang up the phone.

Does Holloway remind anyone else of Jake Virtanen?
Obviously not a comment about his character (I'm sure he's a good kid), but the way Oilers fans talk about him, it reminds me of Virtanen's draft profile:
"Excellent skater who has speed, quickness and power. Can beat defenders with his skating and when he gets an advantage, his size makes it almost impossible for a defender to get back on equal footing. Very strong shot and can beat goaltenders from out but also has the quickness in his hands to score in tight. Has the potential to be a dynamic scoring winger."
