IMO it’s always had a 90% successful entry rate and the problems always happened afterwards. This year it may have been worse and that always seemed to be because he was giving it to Tkachuk on entry and then Tkachuk was losing it on the RH boards.

I know that Gaudreau is better at carrying the puck into the zone than Sam Bennett
Not rocket science
Do you actually disagree?

There's an immense gap between
"Gaudreau, a top ~five player in the NHL at controlled zone entries, is better at carrying the puck into the zone than Sam Bennett"
and
"Bennett can't carry a puck to save his life"
And yes, it's possible for someone to have more success at something without being better at it. Since the Panthers PP doesn't have Tkachuk and Monahan, they are collectively able to enter with a lot more speed and variance in their entries.
Bennett certainly can carry the puck through the middle. And he doesn't need to be Gaudreau tier to be pretty good at it.

He's good enough at it to be trusted to do so and do so successfully by one of the best coaches in league, on a team with many other options.
Do you disagree?
Sorry, your contributions to the thread have mostly been popping up when he has a pointless game, patting your own back when he gets injured, and underselling skills as "couldn't do it to save his life" when Stanley Cup winning coaches seem to have no problem trusting him to use them.
Kind of depressing to watch, honestly.

I'm not the one who started this by saying he was better at zone entries than Gaudreau...had to push back on that one. I have watched him for over 400 games he is not skilled at carrying the puck.
We have fanboys who go crazy after a shot goes off his ass and in maybe we need a little something biased the other way to even things out.
Bennett is a decent NHLer who will have a long career IMO. He isn't suddenly a star because of a two week hot streak with a new team though.

Here it is, have fun with it: https://forum.calgarypuck.com/showth...15#post7734315

I get it, 13 games is not a large sample size. But it's not a tiny sample size either. With each passing game where he stays productive, it gets harder and harder to write this off as a fluke.

You watch any Flames hockey this year? At this point talking about the Flames is more embarrassing than talking about a player on the Panthers people like.
At least one of them is providing some entertainment.

So we're strictly Sam Bennett fans now?
I mean if that excites you, then you do you.
I personally try not to get that invested in one player just cause he happened to be our highest draft pick who we attached wildly unrealistic expectations to once.
The only player I've allowed that to be the case with is Iginla. And that's because he invested years in this team and accomplished many things as a proud Flame in order to warrant that following after his departure.
Bennett was a guy that underdelivered, provided a couple rather forgettable moments, then hinted at various points that he was disgruntled with his treatment until he was ultimately shipped off.
That just doesn't warrant the same investment from me.
But again, you do you.

You can be a fan of whatever or whoever you want. Nobody cares but you.
The fact that you seem to care what other people are fans of, though, is pretty odd.
It's not like we're talking about the Oilers here. It's an ex-player that a lot of people like playing on a team the Flames haven't faced in over a year.
Seems like maybe it's time to add another hobby to the mix if you have feelings about people still liking Sam Bennett strong enough that you need to jump into a thread about Sam Bennett to make sure people know it. Nobody cares, it looks silly.

But I said "you do you", twice.
Which urban dictionary would define more or less as: do what makes you happy, bro.
It's like you totally overlooked that very key phrase. Y u heff to be mehd.

I acknowledged that I was guilty of tarring Gaudreau based on a relatively short stretch of play (though I think Sam's very short sample size of success on PP zone entries is still superior to the Flames overall this season).

It goes both ways...you seem to be pretty miffed some people don't want to cheer for him.

Little odd when some are targeting the posters for a player they like in a designated thread. We are all Flames fans.

If Bennett is carrying the puck into the zone easy its because the other team is worried about his line mates.
Carrying the puck up ice is not a strength of his IMO...my 400 games of watching him has me quite confident in that assessment.
Gaudreau is basically working on his own and still gains the zone more often than not

I'm not sure how someone could watch him play for four hundred games and not notice that carrying the puck is actually his biggest strength.
