yeah, I can't believe I wasted my time with someone who doesn't know the difference between an environmental regulatory agency and a public sector union.

I think someone's mother tied the bib a little too tight around his neck when she was feeding him pudding this morning.

Some idiots provide entertainment, much like the jesters of yesteryear. When they are both stupid and humourless... I guess the ignore list is the only choice.

Pretty disappointing really - I hoped they might show some pragmatism (because, you know, it's cool to stay in power), but they are all idiots and so are all their supporters. Have not seen the exception to that theorem yet. Like, ****, don't you want to win another election?

Is there any Province in this country thats afloat? That has even a balanced budget?

It's tough to keep pounding on the same drum, I get that.

The model is broken. Not just for the public sector pensions etc., but for CPP as a whole. My parents generation created the greatest Ponzi scheme in history, and are going to leave us to foot the bill.

The only place I take exception is when Teachers are targeted directly. Front line workers in general really. They provide a critical service to society and are repeatedly raked over the coals.

I fully agree reforms need to occur. I personally think that public unions need to get rid of a great deal of administrative bloat and make smarter capital allocation choices. But good luck with that one.

Pensions need to be addressed as well. DB plans are notoriously susceptible to demographic changes.

So yea. I don't know how to fix it at this point. The muppets in Edmonton aren't making it easier, I just really hope they don't manage to set us back 40 years as a result of a protest vote.

I've given up on this thread. ppl like CaptainCrunch is what is wrong with today's politics. Act like they know everything. Met plenty of people like that when I was in university.....actually I remember going into a meeting a couple of years ago when I was looking for lease space to expand my business and some MBA grad was trying to sell me his computer model and acting all smart....I laughed at his numbers and said wait until the Oil correction comes.....and walked out of his office.

Today...CaptainCrunch...has reminded me of that guy.....so again I laugh at the stupid, ignorant, and clueless opinions being posted...which might be good in an ideal, textbook setting but have no space in the real word.

And... Mr. Locke....Yes...taxes have increased....but holy batman....they increased from 10% to 12%. OMG!!! How is business supposed to survive??!!!

give me a break. the increases in taxes are insignificant at best...and I'm impacted by all of them. I'll even go on record to say that this province needs a Sales Tax as well........but what do I know?!! I haven't taken a economics course in my life...lol.

The best part of this post is that you don't realize just how much of a hypocrite you are.

Seems everyone knows how to fix Alberta, a computer geek that knows everything from pipelines to politics to union negotiations and what's best for professions he has zero idea about. Then everyone swinging from his nut sack hoping to get his/her approval. Then there is an accountant that is against yeachers getting paid a decent wage aND seems to know every thing in regards to that...but as soon as someone voices an opinion that goes against their ideology that person is an idiot....Hypocrisy is running rampant for sure, but you are looking in the wrong direction.

You guys/girls and definitely pre and post ops are hilarious.

This must be that hyper-left wing CalgaryPuck I've been reading about.

Why anyone would ever call this place a talking-points echo chamber I have no idea.

I'm curious, Cyclops. What are your qualifications to speak? Given you are basically arguing that a "computer geek" and an accountant have no right to an opinion, where do you derive your rights from?

Lets get back to calling posters hypocrites when you have nothing left of substance to argue. That's an old favourite.

I have often wondered, in regards to the golden parachute pensions, how much less of a burden it would be to drop that percentage that calculates the pension. Right now it is a percentage of the average salary of the last five years. I wonder if you drop it 1% to 5% to compensate for the higher than average salary. Changing the model may be difficult so maybe just start tweaking it.

I'm not even sure it's idealism. We are facing massive, apparently intractable public finance deficits in an era of stagnating economies and relentless demographic atrophy. The math is terrifying. So people ignore the math, either because they're innumerate (which covers most voters) or because they'd simply prefer not to think about how this stuff will look more than about five years out.

Our public finances are basically a mini-van careening down a rutted mountain road at night with no headlights, while the passengers and driver argue over which radio station to listen to.
