I think it's more to keep him on the field until some of the Eskimo injuries clear up

Gass definitely takes some dumb penalties at times but I'm not sure about the second part of your statement. Gass had a huge game against Hamilton last week and he's generally Edmonton's best linebacker when healthy. He might have a bit of a temper but he's certainly not invisible out there like you suggest.

LOL. Not sure which half of that sentence is funnier.

I'm not sure why you'd consider either part "funny" as they're both true. Even the most anti-Eskimos will admit Gass is a very good linebacker in this league (especially against the run) and there is no question he single-handedly stuffed Lumsden about 4 times in the first half last week.

I was just being a smartass about beating Hamilton. Hell, Burris looked like an elite QB against Hamilton.

What's he at for tackles so far this year? On the CFL stats pages, he's not in the top 100, meaning he has no more than eight tackles so far this year. And if four of them came against Lumsden this last week, that means he's averaging less than one per game through the rest of the season. Stellar! How many QB sacks thus far? Again, not in the top 25 in the league, so his stats don't show up. But he's a run-stopping specialist, and so he must have forced a few fumbles, being around ball carriers all the time, right? Nope. Most Edmonton games I'm barely aware he's on the field. Every now and then he happens to be in the right place and someone runs into him, but every team in the league has at least one linebacker I'd want on my roster before Gass, and most have a couple. But hey, if Esks fans still think he's great (and obviously not all of them do), you're welcome to him.

edit: okay, his full stats: 8 tackles, two of them for losses. One special teams tackle. No forced fumbles, sacks, fumble recoveries, passes knocked down, interceptions. Half of his tackles came against Hamilton.

You should make sure you've actually watched the games (or at least been paying attention to the CFL in some way) before making a comment like this - Gass has been injured all season and has only played in a few games (one of which he was thrown out of).

Perhaps you didn't notice him out on the field because he wasn't playing?

Gass is widely regarded as one of the best linebackers in the league for a reason and even most Stampeders fans will likely grudgingly admit he's a very good (albeit annoying) player.

Where is he regarded as one of the best linebackers in the league other than on Esksfans?

I would say he is a decent LB but the type of guy that every team in the league has. He is good but I wouldn't say that he is one of the best.

Only played in a few games? He's played in four of Edmonton's seven games; that's over half the season so far. Including both against Saskatchewan, as well as the Hamilton and Calgary games. True, he played only half that last game, but what good is a player who takes himself out of games with stupid penalties. But no, you`re right, eight tackles in four games is a freakin all-star season.

He's regarded as such on 13thMan. I'm not saying Gass is a top 3 overall linebacker in this league or anything but he'd start for pretty much every team in the CFL and there is no doubt he's a very good overall linebacker. When healthy, he's a beast against the run.

So 3.5 games out of 7 - that changes the context of the stats that you so fairly presented a wee bit doesn't it? Likewise, he didn't play very much in the first game so he's maybe played a total of 3 games in all.

Gass has played very well when he's been healthy and I question how much you've watched the Eskimos play (then again, I think you proved how much you've watched them play based on your previous statements) so far this year if you disagree.

Keep in mind there is a heck of a lot more to being a good MLB than just racking up the tackles.

Based on the fact that Bobby Singh is techically still waiting for the ruling in regards to his appeal from last season, I'm really not sure if anyone's time is actually being wasted.

what a joke of a Ruling.. He tossed a Helmet.. could have hurt someone. no accountabilty for him. CFL should be upset over this.. anytime someone gets suspended they just need to whine and make things up to get off.

Hugh Cambell must have been a good Arbitrator.

That is brutal.

Delay, delay, delay until most people have forgotten the incident, then sweep it under the rug.

Yeah that Eddie Davis, Jason Maas deal w/ Hamilton a few years ago was downright crooked. It seems to be that anything that helps the Argos or the Eskimos the league is more than happy to obilge.

Yep, the Eskimos (and the CFLPA apparently) must have bought off a provincial court judge.

The judge who made the ruling is an Eskimo's fan. His ruling was complete bias and garbage and the CFL just nods their head and walks away.
