Good...that was bush league stuff.

Now if the CFL would only deal with the officials of that game the same way......

It was pretty cool if it was XFL, but CFL. I was in shock when I saw the replay on that!

Has he ever been suspended before? If not then one game is fair.

If it were not for Bonds breaking the home run record, AJ Gass would have won the Barry Bonds 'Juicer' of the week award.

We should let him have it on Labour Day. He's by far the dirtiest player in the CFL. Reynolds used to talk about how Gass would try to injure running back's ankles in a pile after the whistle.

I don't think so, but he was fined for kicking Brock Ralph while he was down last year (after Brock Ralph appeared to try to take out his teammate's knees, not long after the Wiltshire incident)

Kyle Turley got a $25,000 fine from the NFL for a similar helmet throwing incident a few years ago.

One of the CBC announcers pointed out at the time that there's no need for fighting in football because you can get revenge on anyone down in the proverbial trenches while the game is going on. Seems to me that AJ is unable to get it done during the play and so he's gotta keep playing after the whistle to try and get some measure of revenge for anything he feels was done to him. Seems like he's just hanging onto his career by his fingernails at this point. I think it's getting to the point where players are targeting him because they know it's easy to get under his skin and make him do something stupid or just get him off his game.

That's half a CFL annual salary! That would put Gass on welfare if he got fined that much.

This is one thing that in my mind increases the perception of the CFL being bush league. I didn't see the incident live so I really cannot comment on how appropriate this punnishment is; but there is absolutely nothing on the CFL website about this. CFL.ca is nothing but happiness and joy; there's never anything bad going on in the CFL.

Very true Ken; you get the feeling that the league is almost apologetic about a suspension like this, as though they were forced into it by media and public pressure. The reality is that if league officials lose the support of just four board members, they're likely gone. So they tend to tiptoe around, trying as much as possible not to draw the attention of the various owners. Until the owners decide that they want a league body with real authority, it'll always be a problem.

Gass has decided to appeal his suspension and therefore will play Saturday night. (According to the fan 960).

That's too bad. If it was this week then Calgary would benefit from the suspension; as Edmonton is playing an Eastern team; ie better chance of them losing with a starter out. If the suspension is next week it's against Saskatchewan; a team Calgary is fighting with for playoff position.

I don't see any way how Gass can win this appeal. That said, I think this is strategic. If the Esks didn't have so many injuries heading into a game against the perceived 'lowly' Ti-Cats, I bet he takes the suspension and moves on. But, since there is a very good chance they lose this game - especially without Gass - he appeals and plays and hopes some other guys get healthy for the game against the Riders (a game which is on the road against a good Riders team and doesn't look as bad if they lose).

Gass continues to fight the suspension.

A.J. Gass will not give up. The Edmonton Eskimo middle linebacker is still fighting his one-game suspension from earlier this month - meaning he will play Saturday in Regina against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. While nine starters missed practice Tuesday with injuries, Shannon Garrett returned to the practice field. - Edmonton Sun
According to the team 1260 Gass has went to an arbitrator for a ruling. I think this has more to do with the injury situation in Edmonton rather than Gass actually fighting the suspension even more. The good news is the ruling will probably come sometime before the Labour Day game and its unlikely to be overturned imo.

Nice to see him suspended against Calgary. I don't see the decision reversed. Hopefully he plays this weekend.

Does this meathead actually think he can win this arbitration case? He threw a guy's helmet 35 yards down the field - you're going to get suspended. What an idiot - take your medicine and move on...

Damn, I was looking forward to him playing on labour-day: he'd be a good bet for wracking up a bunch of penalty yards and being otherwise invisible.
