The Japanese Prime Minister also opened with her statement saying that she, "firmly believes that it's only you Donald, who can achieve peace across the world."
I mean… she’s kind of right. Trump and Trump friends / allies have started most of the major conflicts recently
That is absolutely what she means.

Wherever you think the bar for things like “witty” “hilarious” or “good answer” should be, just remember it’s miles lower than that for some people.

I’m not a Trump fan... I think he's awful for his country and the world. I just thought it was a decent, off-the-cuff answer to a pretty silly question.
And honestly, the ability for the U.S. and Japan to joke about Pearl Harbor today is a sign of progress, not disrespect. It happened over 80 years ago. Maybe it just comes down to different senses of humour.
Sometimes things can just be… mildly funny without needing a moral autopsy.

It just didn't make any sense...

Why was it a silly question? It was a legit question on why didn't you inform your allies of what you're doing before launching the attack, since now he expects his allies to be on side with him as well.

You either have a poor understanding of history, respect and/or humour, or I do. So please, explain the joke and why it was funny, appropriate, and respectful.

Do we need another Alberta Politics & Government Thread showing? Give it a rest already.

Has Trump shown much regard for allies at any point? His approach has consistently been “America first,” often at the expense of coordination with other countries.
So asking why he didn’t inform allies beforehand feels a bit disconnected from how he’s operated for years now. Whether you agree with that approach or not, it’s hardly surprising.

Yeah, and to be fair there are actual human beings who think Rob Schneider movies are elite comedy masterpieces. Like I said, to each their own when it comes to humor. And I didn't ask for a moral autopsy, I just said it wasn't very witty because it was, considering the individual involved, the single most likely thing he was going to say there. But, bland and predictable can also be kind of funny to some.

Sure, but how does that make the question silly? Just because Trump is a petulant child, we should all collectively just let him off the hook? The presses' job is to still ask these questions. How dipshirt Trump responds should have no bearing on what questions should be asked.

I’m not saying the press shouldn’t ask it. Of course they should, that’s their job.
I’m saying acting surprised by the answer is what makes it a bit of a silly question in this context. His response was completely in line with how he’s always operated. I honestly didn't expect even him to go Pearl Harbour, but I thought the delivery was more off the cuff than malicious.
Nothing he says is funny in current context, because the current context is always horrifying.
Whether you can laugh at something he says even leaving aside the current context - e.g., if he was suddenly no longer the President, is still suspect. If you can't find Bill Cosby funny anymore because you can't see him without thinking about all the rapes, then the same should certainly apply to Trump, only more so.

Unless a person correlates "cringe" with funny, that gross pig has never been humorous.
Everything he says is base level garbage, he talks in circles making zero sense but you can tell he thinks he's being quick and witty. "This guy is a great guy, this is very strong, this will be the greatest ever, some people have said that this guy is terrible, this was a powerful attack", etc. With the dementa setting in he's even worse, he's painful to watch.
