Lori Idlout (Nunavut) is crossing the floor from the NDP to the Liberals. This means the Liberals need to win 2/3 in the byelections and they’ll have the majority.

2 of those 3 ridings were won by the Liberals with over 60% of the vote last year.

It should be a foregone conclusion, but I suppose you never know.

What did they bribe her with , errr I mean why did she feel the Liberal Party represents her constituents values more ?

Will be a funnier spin then the candidates “abandoning PP” because they no longer believe in him (vs reality that they were retiring and got bribed to stay and cross the floor)

What part ?

That he was retiring ? He was:

https://globalnews.ca/news/11672379/...0you.%E2%80%9D

Or that he was appointed the special advisor to economic and security partnerships as part of the crossing ? Which he was

Have they announced what position or role Lori gets yet for crossing ?

There's rumour that she's been promised a million dollars in tax payer money.

And also a seat at the next WEF.

Unfortunately one MP who was going to resign and instead crossed the floor and was given a position does not constitute “candidates” “retiring” and receiving a “bribe” to stay.

Perhaps you can share evidence of the candidates (plural) who were retiring (not resigning) and received a bribe to stay.

We can chalk it up to misinformation (you didn’t know the facts were wrong) or disinformation (you did but posted it anyway). What would you prefer?

Not a big deal really, but since you’re suddenly very into misinformation I thought it’d be helpful to highlight some for you.

It's almost like the classic "spend time with family" line was a delay tactic to see if the party was going to stick with the same idiotic trajectory with PP in power. They did, so he moved on from the delay and made his decision. Really really, 4D politics. I know it's tough to puzzle out some days.

Yeah, seriously... look at the timeline on that.

Rumors that he was thinking about crossing the floor -> Scheer apparently barges into his office threatening him -> he issues his statement saying 'I'll be resigning please leave my family alone' (Gee I wonder what Scheer threatened him with). I thought it was pretty obvious that his "upcoming resignation" statement was made under duress.

And really an unpaid, unofficial, non-ministerial advisory role is a "bribe"? Get real.

Responding to this late as I missed it last time re: floor crossings.

I think it’s even more important in close ridings that someone would maintain their party while voting across the floor. It shows that they do recognize they aren’t just repping their Con voters, but doesn’t clear the way for the perceived two-faced nature of the official party switch. A Con voter isn’t going to now vote Liberal just because their MP is now Liberal. But they may be okay with a Con MP that votes with liberal issues while maintaining conservative votes in some instances. But I can see how I may feel more “back door” to be like like “look, I’m going to vote with you guys most of the time, but I’m not switching my party.”

That MP would get booted from the party, though. And then be Independent. And then decide to join the other party.

I kinda think having them sit as independent until a round of by-elections take place, and then hold one in that riding. That person then runs for the Liberals(in this case) and the Conservatives can nominate someone new.

“Seven days a week,” Oliveira, 35, recalled. “Sunday to Sunday. I never saw any taking a day off.”

They departed every morning at dawn and didn’t return until dusk. The hours in between were spent helping to build Latin America’s largest electric car factory for the world’s biggest electric automaker, China’s BYD. Constructed on Camaçari’s Henry Ford Avenue, on land formerly used by the Ford Motor Company, the plant represented one of China’s boldest bets yet in its bid to control the future of automaking.

Chinese men were inhabiting practically every square inch. Most slept without mattresses. Trash lay everywhere. Food was stored on the ground. In one of the buildings, 31 laborers shared a single bathroom; it was coated with an “excess of sludge,” government inspectors reported.
This went far beyond labor violations, the inspectors concluded. The workers enlisted by BYD to build its keystone factory in the Americas had been forced, they wrote, into conditions that recalled “slavery.”

I'm not suggesting they'd be able to do this in Canada, but it's one of the reasons I find it morally tough to support bringing this company to Canada, or even just having their vehicles sold here. Sure, they are cheap. If people know, and still buy them, they essentially signal they are OK with the company doing that, and continuing to do it in the future, and it's a financial win for, well, almost everyone.

Sharing the slavings directly with the consumer.

Just want to shout-out the poster, opendoor. Nobody on this board brings solid facts and data to more threads than he does.

I see an opendoor post in any thread, I'm paying attention.

Quote:
It’s hard to pull good news from Canada’s recent labour report, after recording an unexpected loss of 84,000 jobs, however, one labour analyst says it can only get better from here.

With employment falling across the manufacturing, services, wholesale, and construction sectors, it’s been “one terrible month” for Canadian jobs, says Travis O’Rourke, labour analyst and president of recruitment agency, Hays.

“Bloodbath is the right word,” he says, adding the general consensus among economists was that there would be an additional 10,000 jobs added in February.

Instead, Canada lost more than 100,000 full-time jobs with the unemployment rate climbing 0.2 per cent to 6.7 per cent, according to Statistics Canada’s February Labour Force Survey,

This is after January saw a loss of 25,000 positions.

While the numbers look “bad” now, O’Rourke says things will most likely pick up in the spring and summer due to job opportunities stemming from Prime Minister Mark Carney’s infrastructure investments and the much-awaited Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) review deadline on July 1.

“I think there’s brighter signs ahead,” says O’Rourke.
Let’s pull up our bootstraps.
