I absolutely hated that signing. I hated that we shipped off Monahan, I hated that we spent a 1st to do so, and I hated that we were the one who gave Naz that huge contract after a career year at 31. But at least I got to eat crow on that last part, because Naz played pretty well in Calgary. I never imagined we'd get this package for him halfway into his deal, so fair play.

1st turns to an unprotected 2029 if the Avs have to send 2028 to the leafs because their 2027 ends up top 10, or if the 2028 pick is top 10

This has to be a bit right?
No way that's serious.

Kadri was very solid for the Flames. He is genuinely a fantastic player and is going to make the Avs even better. I hope he gets a second cup, I’ll be rooting for him and Weegs too.
Conroy doing all he can to clean up the absolute mess BT left behind. What a mess indeed.

Not a bit at all. Signing a 32 year old to a seven year contract was the big mistake. Imagine the haul if he'd been on a four year deal. Hockey players don't tend to improve once they hit their mid thirties.

lol, you would have to imagine because he wouldn't have signed that deal...he would have gone to the Islanders and they would have gotten the haul today
like you can't be for real

I also prefer to sign older players to shorter deals
It’s unfortunate the players don’t feel the same way

The only challenge, is at the draft the flames are still burdened with all 3 retention spots. A week later, and they have 2 free slots.

We could have used the seven million dollars a year to sign other players.
The Flames are going to wind up paying this bum slightly more than thirty-three million dollars for nothing. Not a single playoff appearance. Minus 63 in 307 regular season games.

What other players were coming to Calgary at that time that would have
a. Done better than Kadri did over that time period on the ice
b. Had a bigger return in trade afterwards
Half the league misses the playoffs every year and everyone still gets paid
Now I see you spent the earlier part of the day saying nobody was trading for him...nevermind, it obviously is just a bit and you aren't interested in logic

Next on to Huberdeau and Conman’s signing Sharangovich.
Then we have a clean slate.

GOAT!
|
Out: Kadri and a our 4th next year
In: 30 year-old LW with 20pts, 19 year-old LW/C drafted in the 5th round, COL's lottery-protected 1st in 2028 or unprotected 1st in 2029, COL's or MIN's 2nd in 2027
Out: Andersson, Weegar and Kadri
In: Not one single foundational piece that we can build anything around, or even a means of acquiring one. We did, however, get a fine collection of midling roster players that are going to take spots away from our young guys.
So, now the re-sgining watch begins. Prediction: Olofsson and Mataa are re-signed to 1-2 year deals in the offseason, and they plus Whitecloud and Strome will form our new veteran core, leaving almost zero open spots in the lineup for young kids to move up in September/October.

What would even make you happy? Must be rough to be a fan like this. All those deferred picks can be used to trade for players in the future
