I don't think Vancouver can be caught either, but what you said is very true, but there is also the remaining strength of schedule left. Flames have one of the hardest left in the NHL, and the Canucks have a much easier one. Would be hilarious if the Flames caught the Canucks.

Either way, it will come down to the lottery, so i am not all that concerned.

What does our team look like moving forward?

Zary-Frost-Farabee
Coleman-Backlund-Coronato
Sharangovich-Strome-Gridin
Lomberg-Pospisil-Klapka

Bahl-Whitecloud
Hanley-Pachal
Kuznetsov-Parekh

That looks real bad -I like it!

Trading him for a 5th would have reduced that poster's anxiety for a day.

I have a feeling the Flames will use some combination of the four 2nds to get a third pick in this year's 1st round

All makes sense now.

I was blown away that Coleman wasn't traded, but they needed the retention spot for Kadri as was talked about this week. Didn't think it would take until 2 hours after the deadline for the deal to be announced though lol

Also the Strome deal makes sense now too.

I bet next deadline they get more than a 7th for Strome.

What are the conditions on the '28 first? Probably top 10 protected or something?

On TSN, Naz thanked the Flames organization “first and foremost” for how well they handle business. Never any doubts about that here all day lol…

It would, but was probably never on the table. I suspect the Avs were the only team to offer a 1st, and then probably only because MacKinnon requested the trade.

Next year's deadline:

Coleman
Strome
Maatta
Olofsson
Hanley

It's beautiful!

I really assumed this was dead. That's a meaty return me thinks.

WTF were you expecting if this "salvages" the deadline? I mean seriously the Flames traded off two of their highest paid 30 plus players and the one pending UFA that teams would buy. The Flames do need to hit the salary floor too.

I believe this is the trough of the rebuild. Maybe it won't competitively for a year or two, but next year's lineup hopefully has some additional younger players injected.
