Wouldn’t have guessed it was only Weegar that was traded after the deadline lol. Let’s see if they get Coleman done tomorrow

Taking a while to get to 5000

Maybe Dater was onto something with his Nichushkin idea

I doubt it’s true but it does feel like stirring of the pot on the retention item. Avs not having enough but Montreal maybe still in it means Conroy wants Zharovsky for the retention
Edit: also think Trocheck is holding up Kadri

Flames have retained on multiple players under Conroy and for multiple years...they will do it IF IT MAKES SENSE
which makes total sense

• Prior to trading for Nicolas Roy, Colorado and Calgary did discuss Nazem Kadri. I have to assume the same picks Toronto received (a first and a fifth) were available, and there was an understanding of some level of retention. Never got over the finish line.
• Kadri has stuck to his no-trade list, so far.

Honestly feels like ownership might be playing the bad cop to help Conroy out.
Kind of like when you're trying to get out of some activity you committed to, so you drop the "sorry, my wife told me I've got to do something else that day", and let her take the heat.
He lets ownership take the heat and he can keep up the "gee golly" veneer, instead of looking like a hard negotiator.

He told them he wanted Kadri...heard it right from the mouth of a player who was with both organizations

Think it was Thomas first, but everyone knows now that's crazy based on the ask from St.Louis.
And yeah now onto Trocheck.
Although its' funny to me that Hurricanes are so interested in Trocheck.
You had him for parts of three seasons and he had 15 points in 31 playoff games for you.
If I was Carolina I'd much rather have Kadri. Sure he's older but he brings way more grit and edge than Trocheck does.
Edit: Although I keep forgetting Carolina might be on Kadri's NTC.

This is a complete guess but if Nichushkin was involved in the deal, maybe Flames didn't want to take on his money/contract.

Whether it's the Front office or ownership, the Flames do seem to be at odds with the value of retention these past few years.

I feel like that contract could have been flipped. My guess is Nichushkin was only involved if it was something like Coleman and Kadri going to the Avs.
Avs fans seem to think Nichushkin has been a big part of why Nelson has looked good.
I also wonder how much gamesmanship is going on between Dallas, Colorado, and Minnesota right now.
I have a feeling all three of those teams are looking at something bigger...but also don't want to be the first team to flinch in that division. And probably want to try to sneak any deal in so that the division rivals can't react.

It is strange. Kadri is the only guy available in the trade market that has shown he can take over a playoff series. Surprised no one has stepped up.

Pretty similar players. Good second line guys, each have 3 years left. Trochek 3 years younger might be a little less risk for regression to some teams. Also makes $1.5M less. If Kadri is the slightly better player it might be offset by those factors.

I don’t doubt dis and I don’t doubt Kyper. What is entirely possible is Conroy has authorization to retain to a particular dollar amount. Beyond a certain threshold it likely requires ownership authorization. It’s normal in corporations to operate that way.
