Plus ... and this is just me.
Why would they surround the white number with red and yellow and the name with only red?
Reminds me of how messed up the Chiefs look is in the NFL ... red, white, yellow ... helmets red, white and black no yellow

Maybe Bettman talked to ownership and said "guys, you can't keep "retooling", it doesn't work. If you want fans in the seats in the new arena you need to take a chance on getting fantasy hockey players"
He might be the only one who could talk sense into Billionaires.

It's actually not uncommon. Double outlines on the names would really hurt legibility.

Exactly.
We all prefer quality over quantity, and the Flames already have a pretty deep pool of prosects - they just need some high end talent.
However, it is important to remember that every draft is different - especially in hockey where there isn't as much depth of talent to draft each year, as in other sports. This year, after the top 10 or so, the draft lacks a lot of high-end talent, but is pretty deep in next-tier talent. In other words, it's a pretty flat pool, making it a great year to have a bunch of picks. Or to put it another way, quantity is valuable this year, after the top 10.
Weegar wasn't going to return a top 10 pick. Full stop. So getting 3 picks in the 35-50 range, plus a C prospect that probably has 2nd round value, is tremendous value, in this environment.
Still plenty of time and plenty of opportunity, this year and next, to acquire high-end quality.

It looks like the baseline of the 3 is centred with respect to the baseline of the lettering, which is just wrong. The midline should be centred on the same vertical axis as the midline of the lettering, which would cause both visual masses to be properly aligned.
I wonder if the person who thought the pedestal jersey was a good idea is still involved with this somehow.

Umlautes aren't a written English thing so I don't know why you'd expect them on a jersey in North America. That's why you see Ovechkin in Washington and not Овечкин

Wouldn't it be wild if Castagna turned out to be the player Jankowski was supposed to be? Big, good skating center, who came up through high school instead of junior, and turned out to be one of the gems of his draft class.
And for added irony, he came WITH Olli Maatta!

OTT is likely a non-playoff team as well. Eight picks, and 6 of them are from crap teams.
The draft is going to be so fun - more than making up for a season of rebiggle-hockey.

This trade reminds me a lot of when the Flames traded Bouwmeester. Obviously a different type of player, but in a lot of ways the Bouwmeester trade signaled the official start of the rebuild of that iteration of the flames, which is the same feeling now with this iteration of the Flames trading Weegar.
Imo Bouwmeester was more valuable at that time vs. Weegar now, but the return for Weegar is definitely greater.

As an aside Jankowsi is now tied with Nail Yakupov in career points! lol. He's actually became an effective bottom line player the last few years

Seriously, that building has to be weighing heavily on the team and ownership. They'll get six months to a year of marketing the "shiny new thing," but after that, people will want to see results or players at least doing exciting things on the ice.

At least not yet, there is no reporting that Conroy didn't call all the other suitors for Weegar and said we have a firm offer so get your deal in. He's done it on pretty much every other trade to date.

I think the reality of this return is that other teams might have been offering the normal late first + 2nd type of return or maybe even just a 1st.
And Conroy actually preferred the quantity. I think he trusts his scouting staff and his feeling is he'd rather have these 3 picks and the total package than say something like pick 20 and pick 52.
