Yeah. And they sat him on the second night of a back to back against a team that employs Gudas and Trouba to go out and run people. Sennecke was doing a lot of running around that game too. A perfect game to sit a sleight kid who had taken some big hits and been injured as a result.

I want the kid to succeed as much as anyone but you have to take it slow with a player that isn't really seizing things to this point.

Kuznetsov is the shining example of just not leaving any doubt.

It takes time.

The kid is only 19 years old.

Getting him a couple PP goals lends itself to greater confidence which often manifests as improved play.

Showing trust in a player can pay off. Huska should try it.

Zero reason to keep the kid off PP1 until now.

We know what this player's upside is.

I guess we'll just ignore the fact that Parekh is 3rd in PP TOI among the defensemen (including Andersson), despite only playing 15 games. And also ignoring that he has zero goals in that time.

Every time I see Parekh make a nice play, for example the breakaway pass to Coronato the other day, we aren't capitalizing. It is frustrating. He gets a few apples and I think his confidence shoots up.

I still can't believe the season Matthew Schaefer is having out of Junior. It came out of nowhere.

After playing only 17 games in his draft year, too.

Why so shmarmy?

He has tried it.

He tried it with Kuznetsov.
He tried it with Gridin.
He tried it with Honzek.

But all three after the player showing he was ready for trust.

It's really unfortunate that Parekh can't be sent to the A, a year in the minor would help him tremendously, me think.

Being a dynamic skater might be more important than ever.

Schaefer is already a 99th percentile skater in terms of Bursts, Max Speed, and distance covered.

His ability to get up ice quickly and cover a ton of ice is really helping him succeed.

It's where Parekh needs to improve.

Right now he's below 50th percentile in pretty much all ways speed wise (max speed, speed bursts) but is pretty good in terms of how much ice he covers.

To be able to play his game at this level though he really needs to improve that pace.

Hughes, Makar, Hutson...they are all 90th percentile or better in skating speed.

For Parekh to have success he needs to improve his skating speed. You can't defend in the NHL effectively if you're small and also below 50th percentile in skating speed.

Speed is huge these days, and the Flames lack it.

I think there is a high likelihood he spends a good amount of time next season on the Wranglers.

I've never pulled Parekh's skating stats since I always thought he was a great skater.

And Yes - you're right - Parekh is a below average skater! He's got a bunch of work to do over the summer. I'm pretty surprised tbh.

^ speed bursts is a counted stat, not a rate stat. He probably ranks low because he's only played 15 games.
