I'm open to the possibility it's probably a better experience when you don't have to hold your wife's hair as she pukes into the hedges waiting for the airport shuttle.
Did you really go on vacation to Miami and eat at the Cheesecake Factory? If so, you get what you deserved !
I’m heading to Punta Mita for 10 days in April. I’m sure things will settle down as they have in the past and it will be fine. Otherwise will pivot elsewhere. Worry level is low right now.

No, it was a forced layover after an ice storm hit Houston, and United ####ed us by changing our flights and not telling us until the gate closed. Wait, no they told us but sent us to a gate in a different terminal.
So ya, we then had to spend a day in Miami waiting for our next flight. While I'm sure the local food in Miami is great, I couldn't find any, and I really did try. No one would risk cooking for a celiac, the kitchens were all small and full of cross contamination, so in a moment of starvation and desperation we went to Dolphin Mall, which of course was all American chains. At that point it's just a gamble. Good news is I didn't get gluttenated! Bad news for my wife, stay away from the seafood...
That's the second time in this thread this has been uttered. Have any of you ever been to Miami? Unless you're wandering around slummier areas at night, there's literally nothing to worry about. Haven't seen a car on fire there anywhere as long as I've been here. Even if there are armed gangs, they certainly don't have the power over the city.
I know that all things American are "terrible" these days to anyone outside of the States, but this sort of rhetoric makes you look silly. Miami is cool, gorgeous, and quite metropolitan.

I'm sorry, but if you go to the Cheescake Factory and order seafood, getting food poisoning is your fault

My wife is now fully aware. It was our first time. And, like, Miami. Ocean. It's right there. The temptation was strong.
Yeah, but you go to an actual seafood restaurant that usually gets first dibs on the good fresh seafood. By the time Cheesecake Factory workers get to the market, only the dead eyed decaying fish are left.
It's a bit like ordering sushi in Iowa. Lord knows how long it took to get there from the coast. You're taking a risk with that order.

Sure, ya, I get it. lesson taken. We were exhausted from finding a hotel in Houston at midnight, back to the airport for 7, then to Miami, another hotel, and desperate to find food, because the hotel breakfast had nothing I could eat, and airports and airlines tend not to have a lot to pick from for gluten free. All the extra emergency food I packed was stuck in my checked bag which was who knows where.
####, like, I know. We tried. It ain't always the perfect situation. I'm sure it's nice when you don't have to worry about getting sick from every meal. Makes it easier to pick the perfect hole in the wall Anthony Bordain ate at. Not for me.

Sorry, I wasn't picking on you or anything. Lord knows I've eaten my fair share of sketchy truck stop/gas station food when on the road. I was just commenting on the situation in general.

Time to take some heat off of Fuzz. I got sick eating soft serve ice-cream in a McDonald's in Mumbai. We let our guard down on a crazy hot day and thought of all the places in India to risk ice cream, the McDonald's kitty corner to the Gateway of India and the fancy Taj Mahal hotel was the place...whoops.

Cartel controlled city vs. Miami is basically a choice of do you want to deal with coke dealers or coke users. Tougher decision than it seems when you remember it's Florida guy on coke in the coke capital of the world. Argument for a cartel controlled city becomes more compelling with that in mind.

I'm going to be the ####### who points out that it's not always "food poisoning" that causes gastroenteritis. It's not as easy to find the cause as blaming the last place you ate at. Incubation times can be up to 72 hours.
And it's not just viral or bacterial vectors that can bring it on. Certain chemicals, including medications, can irritate the stomach enough to cause symptoms to occur.
I am not A.I. I swear.
