There's usually quite a few, especially if you're already type rated

In my next lifetime maybe, although there won't likely be a world to return to by the time I reincarnate.

Interesting bit of news about WestJet over at airliners.net, apparently they have converted 6 of the 737 MAX 10 orders into 2 additional 787-9's.

Makes sense, the 787-9 is so much more flexible and useful. The Max 10 only has a range of ~6000km vs ~15,000 for the 787. It's faster and carries more passengers. Westjet is constantly shifting stuff around, and when things go bad, having 787's to help recover is going to be way better than Max 10's that can't go the distance. The difference between a -9 and -10 is only a dozen or so passengers as well.

The more I look at the Max 10 and it's limitations from the ancient design, the less sense I see it making for most airlines.

The Max10 just seems like too big an aircraft for the Canadian market. In my opinion. Nice to see the option to 787-9's if that is true. At some point they will need to expand them outside YYC though, especially in winter. Maybe some trans-con domestic routes.

In the early days of the 787, post testing requirements, they did fly YYC-YYZ. At one point they also made an announcement that they were going to fly the 787 between YYC and LAX (I'm assuming that was supposed to be a feeder flight for some sort of codeshare to Asia or Australia or elsewhere.)

I think the Max 10 makes a lot of sense for WestJet, but 100 orders in the book is definitely overkill. Converting some of the options to get more wide bodies makes sense

Westjet Max 9 is 174 seats, the max 10 was going to be 215 but they’ve decided to configure it at 199.

Glad to see more ‘87s.

It's perfect for stuff like Calgary/Edmonton/Vancouver - Cancun/PVR and Vegas once all the US nonsense is over. YYC-ATL/JFK... I can think of a lot of trunk routes in the network where WestJet would want to throw a few more seats at it but a second or third daily flight would be too many.

It also has absurdly low fuel burn per seat - WestJet will generate a heap of additional revenue from the extra seats at relatively little additional expense. The originally proposed 212-seat configuration would have been a torture tube that printed money. British Airways flew here with a 216-seat 787, which is a hilarious point of comparison.
